It has been awful this year

Here too!! In SE Montana they have had wind 40-50 mph. We have had 20-30. It has blown apple blossoms off the trees, and bent shrubs over...it's just been awful. I know that in 40-50 mph winds it can blow a new born calf right over.

The wind suddenly stopped and the crows appeared and if I read them right, I have about 1 hour before it starts again. I better get out to walk because there is no walking in the wind here. Not even sideways. More later, about my friending the crows many years ago, after years of heated conflict.

I would like to say it is wisdom from my American Indian grandmother, but that would be false. It was a simple deduction from my observation over the years. The crows and ravens never appear after a wind quits, unless it is stopping for at least an hour. The baby crows come first, then the older ones when a light breeze starts,, and then the ravens as the wind picks up, but they fly off before it gets too strong.

The breeze picked up and the big crows ascended, but flew when the rain started. No ravens today.

I once warred with the crows until I found out they had a 5-year memory and passed along grudges to their offspring. I once sprayed them with high pressure water and called them derogatory names. It took 7 years but after a lot of sweet talks and allowing the crows to hang in my yard by the dozens, they no longer caw at me or clog my water fountain by bringing in a lot of discarded food they get from behind restaurants, a mile away. Also no more purple poop on my back patio during mulberry season. As a bonus gift, for my exemplarily behavior and sweet honey dripping personality, they drove off the noisy magpies and jays.
