Howdy-
I'm new to posting here, but I have recently had so much fun looking at everybody's pictures, I thought I'd post some of mine!

This calf has weird eyes. Real light colored, but the picture is hard to see them.

No problem getting the bunks slicked up today!

Welcome to the boards Thunder, and thanks for the awsome pics!!!!
All these snow pics from up north bein posted, I admire you folks for what you do, (all of you) up there, that manage to do your daily chores in weather like that.

Keep posting the pictures Thunder Butte. I have noticed your handle on here, and have an idea about where you might be too. I am over west of you in the corner of the state. Close to the Crow Buttes.

It really ain't that big of a deal Jersey. We have had lots of days like these before and we are used to them. Kind of like you are used to hot and humid. It's all in preperation. :)

Good equipment sure helps.

I'm sure preperation is a key factor, and the equipment you all have to use. It still amazes me tho that you all do it in that weather. There's not alot goes on down here durin the 100 degree weather and humidity, except makin hay. Neither of our tractors are cab tractors. one has a top and one doesn't. The one that doesn't I wouldnt mind havin a top on, other than that, I wouldnt want a cab with a/c.....I like the breeze ya git when it's that hot. Last year while rakin hay on the tractor without a top, my daddy in law chewed me out for not wearin a hat. So the next afternoon I grabbed my hat before leavin to go rake.........I've NEVER gotten that hot in my life....it was like the hat just held in the heat 10 times worse than if I didnt have one on. So I won't be wearin a hat while rakin ever again. I just make sure I have my big ole jug of ice water on the tractor with me, and I'm ready to go.

Most of my neighbors have cabs and AC for the summer work. They actually ENJOY putting up hay, as with the AC working, it's the coolest place to be. Until they break down and have to get out and fix it!

I know some have heaters in their tractor cabs. Dad didn't believe in them as he said you had to get bundled up to get to the tractor and if you depended on the heater and didn't dress warm enough, you might get stuck and freeze to death.

That is why, in the winter, when we go someplace in a vehicle, I always made everyone bring along warm enough clothes, so that if we got stuck or broke down, they would stay warm. I think it's called "winter survival skills".

We have a dry heat up here, usually. 100 degrees with very low humidity isn't so bad, if you are acclimated to it. But it still ain't fun.

Growin up in west texas where it's a dry heat, and dry cold, both are not as bad to me as humidity when it's hot or when it's cold. We've been here for 17 years in east texas. Everyone said, oh you'll get usta it. I guess in a way I have, but when the airs stagnant and nothins movin, it can get perdy hot. The worst job (there's a thread on this lol) is when your workin down in the creek bottoms on a water crossin, no breezes at all get down in there, it's just plain ole hot and sticky.

A heater in the tractor cab is standard up here! There's a lot of jumping in and out of the cab doing chores, so a place to take the frost off is nice. 8)

I remember my uncle telling me about when got his first tractor with air conditioning. He had a grand time baling hay all day with a practically Arctic breeze in his face. Then he opened the door, got out, and fell on the ground from the sudden blast of heat. :o Needless to say, he didn't keep the AC set quite that low after that. :D :D

As a group, we Canucks usually handle cold a little better than heat. I think your blood thickens up when you spend a lot of time in the cold. A hot humid day in the summer pretty much stops me in my tracks. :?

Oh yea... those are nice pictures. Keep them coming. 8) 8)

Love the Georgia heat and humidity!!!! Southern humidity keeps wrinkles away!!!!!

Can't wait for a day when it's 97 degrees and 98% humidity!!!

Thanks for all the nice comments guys. All in all, we got through the storm with flying colors. No big equipment breakdows and the snow didn't totally drift us under. Thank God for MFWD tractors! Some of our neighbors had a tough day yesterday since their lots blew shut and they were late getting feeding done due to all the snow removal that needed done. Quite a few folks calving cows now so those required attention all day and night the past few days. Me, well I calve the first of April so not much excitement here. JB- I guess I don't know who you are referring to, but with more clues I may have a recollection.
Tap- I'm actually about 20 mile east of Thunder Butte, but Thunder Butte creek runs through the middle of our place, hence the handle. Been through your part of the world. Nice country.

Elizibeth and SJ Ebert. Beth is a wonderful poet and her address is Thunder hawk.

Stuart and Lisa Schmidt live on the Grand, south of Beth and SJ.

Jinglebob,
We went to the Cowboy Opry in Lemmon last week to see Yvonne Hollenbeck and Brent Voight. Elizabeth was there helping Yvonne sell the CD "Where The Buffalo Rhyme" that has poems from both Elizabeth and Yvonne on it, along with Jess Howard and Rodney Nelson. I imagine you've heard it, but for those of you that haven't, I'd recommend it to anyone. It's wonderful!!
