This is how I have been winding wire the last 3 years. So far I haven't unrolled any, but I do have a spacer, so that I can tie the wire onto the 4wheeler, and just pull it back off.
I built the "spool" out of 1 1/4" square tubing.
Then used a bale unroller as the power source. I'll have to get some pictures of the rolls of wire I have taken off, and of the spool empty. So far I have been able to roll up nearly 4 miles of 4 strand barb wire, without getting off the tractor,
