Today is national Ice Cream day.It is said that Vanilla is the favorite flavour by ice cream eaters in th USA.....So I thought maybe as a fun sugestion,I would get the folks here to let each other know thier favorite flavour,and who makes or made the best ice cream they ever tasted.....If you hot and in need of cooling,think about ice cream and jot down a few memorries.Every one has an ice cream story....My grandfather used to say when the ice crean truck would go by"thats not ice cream.when I was a boy my mom made the best ice cream ever".He never made us ice cream,but would load up his old white rambler stationwagon,with push button transmission,with 8 to 10 kids(who ever heard of seat belts back then.lol) hauling us down to town for ice cream at "Ted's News and Grocery".I remember the trip and the stores porch,and,that the ice cream always went to fast.. :D

Oh my favorite is Parlines and Cream from BIg Scoop 31 flavours.



They say on Yahoo this recipe is good,I stuck it at the bottom of this thread...If you do try it,let us know if it was good?

Vanilla Ice Cream

A Simple Recipe
1 cup heavy cream
1 cup light cream* (half and half)
1/2 cup sugar
3/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 pinch salt
Stir until sugar dissolves. Freeze according to ice cream freezer's directions.

Makes 1 Quart.

*1/2 cream and 1/2 milk may be substituted for light cream
 
You can't beat home made, but Schwans is awful close.

Vanilla with home made chocolate sauce. Thats what they will serve me in Heaven (if I ever get there) everyday and it won't make me fat.

Yep-Schwans is as close as I can get to homemade myself :wink: Got the Schwans man (real nice guy) trained and he does such a neat job of putting the items in the freezer.Now if I could find someone to get the few other groc. items and put them away I would have it made. I grilled the Schwans Angus Beef Burgers for fathers day and they were great. Now someone will probably tell me that it was foreign beef or something.

Just sad that you are made to guess :wink: :( :mad: ... Everyone should have the right to know where their food comes from...Nothing looks better than a good old USA- RAISED BEEF label on the package....

Schwans ground beef is also irradiated, probably some of the safest meat you will ever eat. :)
 
The reason I tried some Schwans meat was that we were getting low on our own beef and have 2 to butcher,but not quite ready yet-so just gave it a try and they were good. Guess I really do not even know how to buy meat very well-always rely on our own. :wink:

I was in town the other day at the same time the Schwan's truck was, so bought a package of their Black Angus Steak Burgers. There were eight burgers in the box, and each weighed 5.3 oz. Counting tax, I think it came to right at $16, so it was $2 per burger. They were very good, even though I have no idea if it was completely a product of the USA or not. I am quite sure that it is a consistent product. Schwan's has a good reputation, and even though it is expensive, a buyer is assured of a high quality, fine tasting burger.

On the other hand, a statement of "USA-Raised Beef" assures me of absolutely nothing, other than the beef was "raised" in the USA. There is a very wide diversity of cattle in the good ol' USA, from Corriente grass-feds to New Hampshire Holstein to Nebraska corn-fed to Alaska musk-ox. Just because a batch of beef says USA-Raised Beef, I cannot be confident that it will taste good. Probably in fact, the other extreme would be more apt to be true. If the USA label is the only "claim to fame" that a package of beef displays, it probably doesn't amount to much. On the flip side of the coin, anyone who purchased beef based solely on "USA-Raised Beef" and didn't like it, they would be pretty hesitant to buy any beef with that label again. Any high-end beef product would proudly proclaim something such as Nebraska Corn-Fed Beef, or South Dakota Premium Beef, or something else with some actual meaning.

How about "USA Processed Soda Pop"? That would sure have a lot of significance. Anything of any flavor would qualify, from sugary to diet-style, from caffeine to non-caffeine. The original label would be a non-issue.
 
Soapweed-glad the burgers were good! We thought so anyhow :wink: Yep,kind of expensive,like you said, but figured maybe the Schwans would be able to buy so of our products that way. Don't mind paying if it is GOOD.

FH, my archive is pretty big, too big sometimes. It's kinda fun since liberals tend to lack a sense of humor..............and it gets under their skin. :lol: :lol:
 
Schwans does have the best ice cream. In fact they bought the local creamery here in southern manitoba a few years ago and made some of there products. Its pretty hard to resist on a hot summer day when one of there trucks would pull into the yard :-)
 
I answered Soap on Bull Sessions because I didn't want to get an argument going on here- but have not received an answer....

Now I know that NCBA members are becoming an endangered species- but their must be a couple left that can answer my question that has been posted on the Bull Session several times without an answer from any of them...

NCBA supported mandatory US beef for the school lunch program-which they said was a safety issue, now this years gathering of the NCBA elite came out supporting legislating mandatory US beef for the military....If they think that it is that important for kids and our troops why don't they believe the common folk should have a choice if its US beef or US processed beef or slaughtered in a back alley mystery meat from Tijuana :???:
