His area (wherever that was  :D ) is under the guns of a wet storm. I know a lot of ranchers over in that area start range calving around the 20th of March, so I bet they think the moisture is a mixed blessing. SE MT is predicted to get some heavy snow in this storm. So far we are on the rainy side of it, and we picked up .20 in. Not much, but a start. Near Buffalo, and Sheridan WY, they are having blizzard conditions. I don't know why we can't get spring moisture in this country without a wind with it. :???:

Up here in North west Saskatchewan, only 2 inches of snow, by dinner was just slushy. Still a good cover though, water is just starting to run.

Can be hard on the calves with the wet ground, as you all know, got to watch from here in.

Its been raining fairly heavy here since about noon. And in the last hour it has been thundering and lots of lightening flying around. Really wierd. :???: And I was jsut reading that they are predicting another two inches of rain before morning. Not a great time to be calving... but its at least warm. But I get scared when its so sloppy and muddy in the pens, a young calf could get tromped into the mud and slop.

Yeah I miss Ol rancher-- he used to love to stir MRJ up

I'll bet my weather is a lot nicer than his about now-- Looks like our storm is about over- moving to the north and east...We've had 40-50 mph winds for 2 days- then this afternoon we got "snain"- slushy snowy rain-- ended up with less than a 1/10th of an inch... Just before dark as I was checking cows it turned over to ice crystals that cut into your face (knew I shouldn't shave the beard last weekend  )...

But now the rain has quit- the wind is still howling out of the N at 25-35 mph and the temp is 36 degrees...But they are saying it should clear in the morning and the sun could come out....

Still predicting 3-5 inches of snow for east of us and up toward Big Muddy- and more south of the Missouri- but it looks like I've missed the main brunt... :-)

Just went out and checked a bit ago and we have those stinkin' ice crystals now. Boy they hurt the cheeks when your heading into the wind! 34 degrees and rain/ice crystal mix. Combined with that blustery wind, it's kind of nasty for the stock. Sure wish I had one of those heavily timbered creeks for this kind of weather. I don't have much protection and don't have near enough windbreak built yet.

The moisture sure is welcome, but I think I'd prefer it to be either warmer or a little cooler. I think snow would be easier on calves than this cold rain. Oh well, we'd better take it however we get it and be happy. No matter how it comes, it will settle the dust and make things grow.

Nice to see Oldtimer to visit about weather, do you have trees to portect the calves or sage?

CA

Down here on the river we've got a few trees, but most of their windbreak is man made...Got a couple calf shelters the calves can get under and escape Momma and get protection...

Sure is different this morning- sun looks like it will shine, wind is down to 15-20 mph and temp is 27....
Altho around here a guy should take moisture anyway he can get it- I think we lucked out and missed the calf killing snowstorm...

We have received a nice 1.4 inches of rain during the night. It is still coming down and looks to maybe set in for awhile yet. We are very glad to get the moisture, as the country sure needed it.

Well, we've had moisture in the air for the better part of the last 36 hours. Not real heavy though. Neighbor's gauge had just over .8" this afternoon, but his gauge is on the south side of his house and I know a bunch of that horizontal rain yesterday probably didn't land in it. I'm guessing somewhere between 1 and 1 1/4 inches thus far for a storm total. Temp is houvering right around the freezing mark and most of what fell today did it as snow that turned to sloppy slush when it hit the ground. It's nice moisture, but the livestock will sure be happy to see some sun.

If there is any truth to low pressure causing cows to calve, it is holding true here. Our heifers are sure keeping me busy. We have started to get some heavier snow now, and the wind is not so bad, so life is better. :-)

Check out some of these snow totals from Wyo. in my link. Holy Moly, they are getting the moisture!

Interesting, Tap.
Talked with a friend in Sheridan, Wy today and he said they got
24"-36" of snow in town with 8 foot drifts AND IT WAS STILL
SNOWING.

We got close to an inch of rain, but not much in the way of snow.
Man, it is going to be green when the sun comes out!!!!

Haven't talked to Mr. FH brothers in Wyoming as of yet, to
get their report about Buffalo, Wyoming, as that is where they live,
but we did hear Buffalo and Kaycee got hit hard.
Some of the sheep people are probably lambing now and that
can't be good.
