Worried about ranch dog

That is my dog teddy you see and they allowed him because he is little. I love animals but I also love people. I am finding out that moochee is doing fine where she is. We are adding straw and a light to the area also today. No they will not allow her in the trailer or their house but they are allowing me to make better provision for her care. My resentment or anger toward the folks didn't help moochee one bit. Negotiating did:)

Sounds good to me:) I just had to do some research. She is fine but we are adding a couple things today. Here in this area it doesn't get as cold as say, zero or below, but if it does I know I will bring her in. Or if it's windy(windchill)I know to well what that is since I lived up near the Columbia Gorge at one time, ouch!!!!:) Thank you much and yes, they are wonderful company! I have a feeling I'll be able to have her in with me. The folks really like having me here. Just have to deal with them right:) God bless, denise

As long as the dog house is dry, isnt drafty and has an old rug or blanket over the door to keep wind from blowing in and good bedding to snuggle in she will be fine at 20 degrees. If wind chills got down to 20-30 below zero then bringing her in mite be good during the nite as long as the trailer isnt too warm because putting back out would be harder on her then. I use to keep all my Aussies outside all the time but getting 'soft' in my old age and they live in the house now...are good company for me...gives me somebody to talk to. :D

Yes, moochee has this warm shelter but she would rather be out laying in the dirt or snow, LOL! That's during the day. Great P's are wonderful! I know about their breed and yes, I see them out in the cold. ;) Thank you much for your input, denise:)

Dogs are pretty tough. A good out of the wind shelter with some sort of cozy insulation, ie. straw is what most "out door" dogs need especially when not in the extreme cold. Wherever they spend the night if they are expected to be outside all day don't keep it too warm. Having said all that every breed is different and my 19 year old border collie spent his last three years sleeping in the house even in the summer. By that point he was a pet and no longer a working dog. Helped with his last preg testing this fall (more hindrance than help). What I was going to say was even in this extreme cold our Great Pyrenees is out sleeping in the barley bunches with the cows. She has access to a good dog house on either side of our house and still can be found snoozing in a snow pile. Go figure!!

I know, LOL!! She tore the heck out of a nice sleeping bag I bought for her:) But the straw they are buying today is gonna be nice:) They always provide what I ask. They are both older and I pretty much get my way on a lot of things around here. That is why they wanted me here:) Thank you much!!! I will rest much better tonight:) denise in OR

Don't worry about the heeler. sounds like you have made a good house for it. If I put a old jacket or carpet in for my dogs they just pull it out and rip it up. :roll:

I love animals but I love people as well. I know there are people that don't deserve pets or kids. But these folks are not bad people. I am learning much from far more experienced animal owners than myself:)

We have a dog house but my dog won't use it she is either laying on a haypile or laying on the living room floor.My wife has her plumb spoiled.
 
Serioous question my miniture border collies were in the house and caugth them chewing up my CDIR packages. Both are breeding stock males. They chewed up the CDIRS could they have reproduction problems for my breeding herd Should I take them to the vet or have him do a farm vist..
 
Thanks so much, I have learned a lot today, and so appreciate the folks here:) I could rig the light but I put a whole bale of fresh straw. She is healthy. I've been playing with her off and on all day! She has her doggy door to go in and out but I hesitate to plug that, it hasn't been windy, zero wind, so I think I'll leave that as is.

I too, think your Heeler is fine with what you have provided her. And it is hard on them to go from being warm in the house to cold outside.

Be careful with the straw and the light...you don't want to start a fire!!

my experience is that once a dog starts sleeping in the house hes hooked for life,it realy depends on your presonal preferences.just a place out of the wind and dry if they have a heavy hair coat will be sufficent my border collie likes it outside most of the day only coming in at night because he barks at coyotes
 
and is not used for what she was bred for. If she were mine I would keep her with me, in and out. They are older folks and inherited her from their sister that died. She was pretty lonesome til I showed up but they don't want her in the trailer the provide for me. I agree with you especially after talking to so many folks today. I know when I first came here back in March, as well as through the Summer, I had to keep brushing her. She has one thick coat. It doesn't look that thick but I was there when she shed and will be here again this next year:) God willing:)

It's nice and dry in her shed and I know she will be fine. I will rest much easier tonight as well:)

Update my red minuiture border coliie is getting a littel shakey he acts kins of funny his paw is up now he sqweeks. the balck miniture boder colline is gettin kinda agressive toward him on the back end.

SHOULD I RENAME THEM BARNEY AND FRANk
