I have an opportunity to aquire an exceptionally well bred mare. Better than anything I have ever owned. HOWEVER she is one heck of a witch, and I do mean witch.( Hence the price tag) She doesnt pass this on to her kids but do I risk it? I have seen her offspring and they are as sweet as pie. I dont usually have the time of day for nasty horses, but the pedigree and the fact that she is not passing her temperment on is rather tempting......
 
What does YOUR ' gut' tell you? Whatever that is....is your answer cause you're gonna have to be the one put up with her ( @ the dining room table) :wink: :wink:
 
I guarantee she would not be at the table! She is the type you breed and turn out. She is fine in a herd she just doesnt want to be messed with. They are selling her because they tried to pasture breed her and she broke the studs leg :shock: Why they didnt tranq and hobble her I dont know. They were well aware that she was evil, so why put the stud at risk!
 
How does she interact with other critters?

If she is a bruja does she have to kept alone to keep from fighting?
 
She is totally fine in a herd of mares, but look out if your a gelding she will run the boys right through a fence!
 
2 questions then....how close is your vet( to sew up critters) and how close is the hospital ( to sew up you)?

Well since I pretty much own shares in the hospital it's pretty close , but you are correct she is the type that would like to get you. And that is a very real consideration!
 
You're a big girl and over 21...but since you asked I'd vote NO!

I had a gelding once with the same type of attitude. Now I have 3 mashed up neck vertebrae from that ordeal, almost 20 years later they still hurt.

When he was struck and killed by lightning I was hysterical....everyone else was practically throwing a party!! They said that was the best thing that ever happened to that horse!!! So, that little story backs up my NO vote!
 
Well, I think you guys are right to much margin for error. But to be truthful I was thinking more about Mr. T than myself :) And Braxton is not allowed near the horses. TB are to unpredicatable to have kids around. I have a few that I would trust but most just have too much spook in em.


Thinkin out loud I guess.....

I'd go with the gut- but I'm sometimes a gambler if you don't have to put up too much investment.....

40 years ago I was working for the grazing association and one of the horses I was riding was a Hard Twist mare ( that had came off the track) that threw my butt several times--beautiful mare, but no matter how much you rode her you couldn't trust her...The owner offered her to me at a price I couldn't refuse- and I took her- she kep blowing up- so put her in the broodmare string and bred her back to one of my old studs (Blanco Ho- son of Mano Blanco) and she raised some of the best colts I ever had- that had no buck or problem in them...Thought I'd really get something and bred her to the AQHA racing stud I co-owned (Nifty Win) (going to make it big on the track :roll: ) and her colt was an out right miserable S.O.B......

Some things click- some don't......
 
Why pass on poor genetics, even if they skip a generation? I vote no. Ain't like you don't have enough horses as it is. :-)

People breeding this kind of attitude in to cows, horses and people is why we have cranky pissy females. :-)
 
We got rid of a stud horse last year because of his attitude,his papers were out of this world for a paint,but he was going to hurt sombody bad.The guy we got him from wanted him back,so we traded for two nice yearly fillies.

Gregs brother almost got killed by a mean horse,got him down and started stomping,he got out went straight to house,horse died of lead poisoning

Thanks for all the replies guys :) I'll pass on this one. There are other fish in the sea . If I had unlimited land I would take her but she would require a fair bit of handling here. And if she got loose, well lifes just to dang short for that. I mean she could be just fine but why mess. I dont have anything with questionable temperment yet so why mess with the system. Sometimes I just need a kick in the bum. I still think I'm 20 and bullet proof :)
