Howdy all. Colorado thankfully just got some good wet snow over the weekend and through Monday. We desperately needed the moisture we got, and we'd like a few more storms just like this one. Anyhow, yesterday we made our bi-weekly trek to Calhan for steer and chicken feed. While we were in town, we figured we'd go ahead and get my checking account opened up. The money I've been saving went right in. :D I was pretty excited. Of course, I got 10 temporary checks until my ordered ones come. Since my mom was in college to be an accountant, she knows all about money and accounts and such, so she was telling all about how to record deposits and "un-deposits" and how to handle my money and checks. Good thing I reckon. So, today I wrote my very first check for an A.I. School deposit. Goin' to school this April. 8)

I wrote my first check when I was about ten years old. This was for seven dollars, and it purchased a hat. Have written way too many checks ever since. :?

Good luck.

Thanks Soap. $7? Musta been a real fine hat. :-) Well, we enjoy doing what we do. I reckon that's better than making a pile at doing something you hate getting up every morning to do. We of course had to make some jokes about me being a rancher and having checks.

Every time I get my bank statement, I think...if I never had written those checks I'd be a wealthy man.

Are you going to an AI school here in the state? There was one advertised in the AgJournal, I was thinking of going to, but hard to get away this time of year.

Yup. I'm going to the 7 Triangle 7 school at Akron run by Harold Miller. The April dates work with my spring break, so that's why I decided to hit that one. Boy, let me tell ya, my mound of money dropped in size considerably when I wrote only a $150 deposit. Mom and Dad are helping me by covering half of what the school will cost, so I only owe another $100 that I don't have to pay up until I get to the school. Since I will become an A.I.er, Dad's also going for a refresher course. That way, we'll have two guys to get the job done. :D

Don't be like some I have known. They think that they have money in the bank as long as they have some checks left in the book.............

AI is a good tool and a useful skill.
Writing cheques is a useful skill. Quite frankly if the bank would take my cheque I'd be debt free (I'd even pay the $20 overdraft charge)

Thanks to all! Hopefully after this spring, I won't have to write too many more checks. This fall when I put some cattle for sale, I might be able to recover some of my funds. :D

Depositing cheques is soooo much more fun than writing them!

To bad the written always outnumber the deposited. :? :D :D :D :D

I'm not off to a very good start! :D Put one in the account for $70 and then wrote one out for $150.
