Here's some new fence I'm making-not sure if I'm building it right but It's kind of fun to build. If you want some done give me a call I'm for rent.

Forest service had some like that on our allotment, first snowflak layed it down. They made the next one with 50, 60 and 70 foot poles (the bucks were still 12-15 feet apart) and the bucks had braces (pole from top to bottom) every other one and every other direction.
The first fence we had a name for it ****ing Pole fence it was a pain to maintain, the second stood up good for over 30 years.

Something didn't seem quite right...so I went searching.

3 rails on one side, one for bracing on the other lower side....but then every once in a while, you make an 'X'. Would seem like for extra bracing, but they are not put at any pressure points in the fence....more or less randomly put in...weird :? :???:

Think I will stick with a split rail fence. Those Wyoming fences look like a 2-3 man operation. :-)

Nice lookin' fence, but seeing as how it's crime to cut a tree here as there are so few, I guess I'll stick with barbed wire.

Went out this morning and put in 8 corner posts. Took about an hour. I used the tractor and pushed them 2' 3/8" pieces of pipe into the ground.

The fence looks good but I don't have the time or money for them. Most of mine is two strands of Hi tensil ( both hot ) In the barn lots I have five strands ( still all hot ) and my corrals are used hiway guard rail - - - I have used galvanised steel cable for feed lots as well.

I want to never have to rebuild a fence I have put up. Do it once and then if I want to build fence it will be to cross fence more.

Personally I'd rather 'ride' fence than build it...but then that's all the 'boys' wanna do, and I'm a little older now, soooo....

Either way, it's a good lookin' buck-rail fence and should stay in good shape for awhile; unless a freak blizzard comes in and lays it down. They can't have fence like that over in Western Wyo (Pinedale) or the 'Big Hole' (Wisdom/Jackson MT) unless it's 'tree-trunk sized' poles...

It's good, healthy work...I don't reckon any man ever 'drowned' in his own sweat after all...

We can get those treated rails for 5.50 a piece so it's not bad to build-I just put it around the yard and stuff-we have an old highway cuts through it so lots of extra fencing.

I agree yu call that fun?Have seen before in Rockies. They used them because yu don't want to be drilling post holes into the rock

my old boss in the big hole in montana had me make one of those, since most of his property was flood irrigated and so damn spongy it wouldn't hold a post to save its life. i built it with three poles on one side, and 1 on the other. it held up pretty good, but let me tell ya, skinnin them poles with a drawknife by hand gets to be quite a bit of work........when you have a bout five miles of em.....anyway, looks pretty good. plan on it goin down sometime though...damn jackleg fences...something always happens to em. but they definitly work

Sure it's fun to build-I'd rather build fence than ride a tractor any day.
We gotta get you a better Tractor  Yea Yea I know being out there fresh air being one with nature all that good stuff. I have to fence a 1/4 next week myself but will probibbly cheat, Hi tensil hot wires etc. etc. But yours does look sharp, good work :!:

Wife's was built on the Continental Divide between Butte and Helena in about '80, we replaced a few rails in the last 5 years as some have started rotting, but they were only 3" poles.

Held up good for us.

4 on one side, one on the other. Cross-brace every now and then on the single pole side.

I myself have done my 'tour of duty' in the Big Hole with both Dick Hirschy and the 'Maverick/Klemo' outfit...

...I don't believe that snow-bound valley will ever see my face again...

That's my next favorite fence to buils is high tensile-were building all our new fence with 6 smooth-3 hot-3 not-it works great-one or two wire is way cheaper but a 6 wire with closer post spacings will hold cattle and horses with no power-we get so much green growth in summer and snow in winter it's hard to keep power flowing. Those old buckers really respect hot wire they'll fence through a barb wire fence but will peel off a smooth wire one. I use a cordless drill and wood screws to put my insulators on-the kids think it's fun to use so easier to get help lol. Cowzilla-I don't even own a tractor-I doubt there's any body hates iron like I do lol.
