    Anything From NCBA on This?

The AMI is working to open our borders to beef from around the world. Do you know why they are doing that, MRJ? I'll tell you; It is because they want to be able to buy cheaper beef from other sources so they can either drive down the price of US beef or not buy it at all. Now, how does that...

    Corn price vs. feeder price

Tommy, during the fall feeder and calf receipts are at their peak. Do you deny that corn prices were rising rapidly last fall when receipts were at their peak? Were corn prices as high as now, NO? On the other-hand receipts were much larger then they are now. Have you forgotten that feeders...

Marketing Agreements - Good or Bad?

Econ....Agman, the cattlemen were railroaded in this case and you know it. The "world renowned" econometrician must have had assurance that the data obtained via discovery would never see the light of day outside the trial and that his analysis would not be checked over. I have asked you to...

To be fair and honest the double digit growth you mention is from an extremely small base. Going from 1.0 unit to 1.1 units represent double digit growth -10%. That said I am all for market niche players and if manged properly there is a very bright future for them in the beef business.

Are jurors always right, yes or no? If the judge was wrong with his comment and understandig of Taylor's research the Appellate Court would have reversed his decision. You people never run out of lame excuses.

Marketing Agreements - Good or Bad?

A nice meaningless commentary from the man whose own research per this matter got destroyed in the Pickett case. This is the same man who is a production economist who never authored any research per the livestock industry prior to Pickett. When his own "captive supply" research was further...

Marketing Agreements - Good or Bad?

Sandhusker twists and turns again - par for him. Your quote "Since wealth is not created nor destroyed, merely transferred," If no wealth is ever created then what is there to transfer or share? Explain that one without trying to twist your way out. When you learn to distinguish between...

Marketing Agreements - Good or Bad?

Your premise is wrong regarding our so called "cheap food policy". We have cheap food relative to our massive income. That differs from "cheap" food. People will only eat so much food. If incomes rise much faster than consumption, which they have, spending relative to income will decline.

Another Land Grant Economist Sides With Packers

Commenting about a report you have not reviewed yourself is par for you. Stumo's comment is hilarious. He takes one sentence from 200 plus pages and draws a conclusion to attempt to discredit the results of the entire report. You and he must have the same teachers. The advantage of this...

5 Years Ago--Same Ole Same Ole

How has the long term trend in independent farm families differed from the current trend? The decline in family farms was ongoing for decades, actually centuries, before the current trends were in place. What was the cause for the decline in family farms then? Has the long term and principal...

Marketing Agreements - Good or Bad?

It is astonishing how limited your knowledge is. The cheap food policy you and others hide behind is a result of exceptional gains in income. Consumers do not spend less on food, they spend more total dollars on food each year. Your simple conclusion overlooks the exceptional income growth as...

Marketing Agreements - Good or Bad?

Your response is short-sighted. If total revenues are enhanced everyone can and does share. If revenues decline that poses a different result that will ultimatley lead to more consolidation at every level. Thus, the conoldistion during the period of delcining beef demand. Your comment...

The review you cite is not available on the data that I have access to from the USDA. If you have a URL post it please. I will follow-up. Thanks I see nothing in the review you cite that disagrees with the conclusion of the study. All the reviews I have read are similar. Some would modify...

Marketing Agreements - Good or Bad?

The issue of various marketing agreements and various marketing arrangements is discussed. If you are asking about substitutes I assume you mean competing meat impact. The answer for this study would be NO and it would be irrelevant. This is not a Demand study. If you knew as much as you...

Marketing Agreements - Good or Bad?

THE market system for buying and selling livestock in the U.S. is alive and well. A ban on packer ownership of livestock and other alternative marketing arrangements (AMAs) in the beef industry would cost producers, packers and consumers billions of dollars. These are the key conclusions of a...
