    Cow lease

Read a good article in Working Ranch of a young man in western Wyoming that was leasing cows and had a pretty interesting ideas on the topic. Basically he was allowing the owner to take the top 25% of the steers and a certain percentage of the heifers with him retaining the rest. He was...

    Bred cow prices?

Neighbor to the south buys western origin heifer calves to background/breed every year. Sold a big group of char/red angus cross of big frame that brought $3900/head. Some of these prices look like bargains to me versus what we are seeing here in W. IA.

    Southern U.S. ranching ??s

Humidity....It will kick your rear end. My wife and I moved to her homeland of Iowa 4 yrs ago from western SD. I am still trying to get accustomed to the humidity. That being said, feed is never a shortage here as they bed with feed(stalks). That is part of the trade off for humidity. Don't...

    Why Carry a Gun?

Exactly why we carry firearms. My wife's Christmas present at her request was a Glock, brought a tear to my eye. This fight won't end, but I tend to believe history repeats itself.

Good for you, seems that we have had the same type experiences. It's like walking to the neighbors after your pickup gets stuck and no cell coverage, one step at a time. Thanks for the look into your part of the world.

I'm starting to realize that you need to make the area your in home. I'm a displaced South Dakotan that spent 4 years living just NE of Justin's ranch and I thought that was home. We moved back to Iowa (wife's home neighborhood) and have had a tough time adjusting at first am starting to...

What part of Missourri do you live? That looks an awful lot like southern Iowa. That part of the world intrigues me with oppurtunities to boot strap an operation.

    welder ?

$100 is a heck of a buy. I'll echo porkchop, check out the Hobart, Miller, and Lincoln websites as they all have very good information on rod selection based upon the job at hand. Another thing with grinders is to use the flapper disks for preperation instead of a grinding disk as they do not...

    photos from Nov. 3

That's quite the crew you had there. Can only imagine there were a few laughs had that day. Thanks for the pictures of the kids and home for a displaced south dakotan to see. We're headed to the stock show hope to see you there.

    cattle pictures..Dec 7th

We've been using 1/4 Sim 3/4 Angus the last 6 years on our cows as adding a simple bit of hybrid vigor into the herd and have been more than happy with the results Also I've seen every one of those critters on that place, there isn't any simmental in that bunch from my eyes, don't think that...

    cattle pictures..Dec 7th

Good to see pics of the old neighborhood. Cows and scenery look just as good as they did last year at this time, and the feeding rig looks awful familiar but not on your ranch.
