    2 acre fence project.

I don't think I've even seen the wire on the outside of a fence along the highway. Maybe I'm wrong. We always put the wire and posts on the inside where the pressure is.

    Beef Bacon

I wouldn't ruin the brisket for bacon. From your illustration, it looks like Plate is your best bet. However, bacon comes off of pork belly. Our favorite is Side Pork and it is sold as Pork Belly some places. I'd ask my processor. They should be able to cure it like bacon from pork. Good luck!

Looking for ranch on the West Coast

I think fencing would be a good way to meet ranchers. You could use it as a stepping stone to get closer to what you want to do. There is a shortage of ranch workers, so that should be in your favor. Good luck!

    Beef Bacon

Beef bacon is fine. Are you going to have it cured? I think I would. Good luck!

I'm confused. I-25 doesn't go by Upton. No interstate goes by Upton that we know of.

Has anyone grown potatoes in a container?

So what did you learn? I read where it is good to layer straw in the containers so the dirt doesn't compact. I don't have straw so I bought potting mix. I hope it works okay. Several have sprouted and have green leaves so, so far so good! I don't have a green thumb and I don't want to mess up...

Has anyone grown potatoes in a container?

Thanks Nicky. I started with only about 3" of dirt but I plan to keep 'hilling' them by adding more dirt as we go. I bought potting soil so hopefully it won't compact, but layering the straw sounds like a good idea. BTW we saw some outstanding yearling red Angus heifers today. They are...

Has anyone grown potatoes in a container?

I'm hoping to grow potatoes in an oak barrel, a black tub and 2 5-gallon buckets. The seed potatoes have sprouted. In regard to hilling, what I have read is that I should cover them with 3" of dirt. Let them get through the dirt, then cover them with 6" of dirt. I'm wondering about covering...

Arizona - Sedona Red Rock Town

We looked at a ranch near John Day, OR. It was too rugged for us. But beautiful country. We were told about a ranch woman that would look on the ridge above the house to see the riders. She would know they would be back for supper in 2 hours!

    sailing the sagebrush sea

Sagebrush works well for the little fawns and ground birds to hide in. I loved the smell of sagebrush when riding horseback in the spring. I sure miss that. The oddest thing we ever saw was balls hanging down from sagebrush. I can't remember what or why that was, but we had never seen it...
