    Out of power

The icing must be really bad in places. It took a TV tower down at Reliance (central SD) and a radio tower down at Lemmon. Sounds like the weight of the ice broke the guide wires.

    What's your elevation?

Yeah, I've found the town elevation. Sturgis is listed at around 3400 ft. The airport sure seems to be higher than the town as it is up on a flat outside of town, but it's shown as around 3200. Being away from the hills, we're some less than town, but don't know just how much.

    What's your elevation?

Ok, does everyone have a GPS or is there a website where you can find maps with elevations??

    Soap

Ok, RFR, I'll sympathize with you. I'll bet that feels darn cold in southern Louisiana!!

    Can't Reply???

I'm kind of like Jassy--can't stay logged on and get kicked off half the time when posting a reply.

    The cold is out again

It's cold now, but going to be downright nasty overnight if the wind stays up and the temp drops like predicted.

    TDN of loomix

Have you ever had problems regulating consumption? That's the biggest concern I've heard with liquid feeds.

    Northern Rancher

There are good bankers out there. The banking relationship is one of the most important, if not the most important business relationship there is for most of us involved in ranching. The key is to find a banker that understands you and your capabilities and a bank that does not make decisions...

    Close the door.

+5F with winds 30 mph and up here. Thought I'd try to get an update from the weather channel and they're showing pictures of people on the beach in Southern California.

    Define Productive

No offense taken. I get jabbed and I'll jab back :D Sometimes when we get bogged down with details, it pays to point out the obvious. It was stated that no matter what, half the herd is below average and most often that is not true. I used a simple example to make my point. MERRY...

    Define Productive

I wasn't arguing from the extreme. I was using a simplified example so the guys from Missippi could understand   If you make culling decisions from the cows that produce below your herd average, you don't necessarily have to choose from half the herd. With a herd that produces...

    Define Productive

Not to be argumentative--just to make a correction here....... If you have 3 calves weighing 600 lbs. and 1 calf weighing 400 lbs. what is the average? How many are above the average?

    thread gone....?

I'm sure glad I'm not a Steelers fan!! They really fell apart the last few weeks. I'll go out on a limb and pick the Broncos today. They'll either pull off the upset or get tromped and beat by about 4 touchdowns, depending on if they show up to play or not.

    thread gone....?

Something just doesn't seem quite right with that situation. NR doesn't seem to be the type that would let one PM get to him.

    Question for the board

Wow! You've been ranching a long time

What classes are most helpful on the ranch?

The basic levels of all the sciences--earth science, biology, chemistry, and physics have some everyday applications no matter what a person does in life. On math, I really think there should be more emphasis on basic accounting and business math. I've used some geometry applications a bit...

I'll bet there are some guys on here that would like their wives to learn those exercises!

    Thoughts on weaning.

Regarding the subject of selling weaned calves versus selling off the cow....... If there was any market incentive to sell weaned calves, more people would wean before selling. If weaned calves aren't worth any more money, why would people do it?
