I'm wondering how you could get Longhorns in a chute in the first place. Like the other guys said, sell those and get some good cattle, ones that will fit in a chute so you can brand them.

I help at least 15 friends and neighbors brand every spring. I love the chance to visit, work, joke around and enjoy a beverage or two with all the guys. The only branding I don't enjoy so much is my own, too much to worry about, but somehow we always manage to get it done.

Got my first calf out of the cows yesterday in a blizzard, right on schedule about 2 weeks before their due date. I can't wait till May! My heifers are on a break between the AI calves and the bull bred calves. Great moisture here, probably at least 2 1/2 inches. :P

Our program is very similar to yours. I give pasturella at branding too. Not sure if it's effective or not but money is no object if it helps keep the calves healthy.
