    Baldy bull market?

Its kind of like horse industry. Your name is everything. At least with horses you can show them to prove performance but with cattle buyers are basically taking word of the producer. It would be very tough and expensive to get established in my area with any type of purebred outfit. Not sure...

    Bale deck

The deckplate that moves for your arm linkage seems to get bent on the falcans. I dont know how guys do it? Falcons seem a bit heavier built overall than dewezz and ive seen dewezz bent up. Both look like great decks so for me it would probably be about price and who is closest dealer I'm still...

    Feeding wheat?

Trucking would be killer on round bales. I see guys charging 5 cents a km. So I'm guessing thats loaded mile? But even at loaded mile thats 500 for 60 mile. For amount of bales they can haul that would get expensive really fast. I'm thinking best shot is an open winter and year round grazing...

    Feeding wheat?

Thanks Just keeping what we have feed for. I have snoozed all Facebook hay groups. Depressing seeing desperate people basically begging for hay ,plus endless scammers. Maybe I just buy one load in fall? We did get an inch of rain that will help pastures. Cow prices are strong. Shipped some. No...

    Feeding wheat?

I'm just wondering. So wheat and barley crop are really looking bad. Drought, grasshoppers. So farmers dont want to sell standing until after crop insurance (Canada). I'm wondering if enough there after crop insurance to cut and bale for cattle to eat.? It won't be greenfeed at this point. Any...

Always been my dream of becoming a rancher, what should I (20M) do now to make it come true?

It seems like most are either born, married, inherited into it. That or they are lawyers, oil and gas guys who just bought an outfit because they think they are cow man or something. I truly believe if you have enough heart and desire for it and if you dont give up and keep working towards it...

    4 yo bull

Had planned on keeping one more year but I guess I will ship. He has been getting weird soundness issues off and on for 2 years now. 2 years ago vet couldn't find anything wrong with him and he healed out after antibiotics. This spring he got gimpy again after thrashing a fresh round straw bale...

If your trying to make money off of 20 acres your best bet is to rent it out to someone.

    Donkey Attacked Last Night

Bobcats on small whitetail deer latch on under the throat. Cougars on horses, land on top of back and bite into neck. Grizzly will wack cows in the nose like mike Tyson. Wolves when unsuccessful will usually end up with the cows tail as souvenir.

    Hormones during calving

Years ago I bought ranch cows that were used to looking after themselves. Most did not appreciate any assistance. Problem was I had no natural shelter on my place so I had to run them in because they were calving early in bad weather. They would charge into the corral fence if they saw you...

    Calving heifers

One other thing that I forgot. The more I feed my cows, the bigger the birth weight. I dont over feed and I dont like to give them a barley ration before the calve.

    Calving heifers

Bull sales are just starting so I dont really know yet what bulls are selling for this year but Herefords generally sell for a couple of thousand less than an equivalent Angus bull. Peter sells to a lot of Americans so it must be worth it. I know you will gain on the $ exchange. I'm betting if...

    Calving heifers

I'm on my second bull from Peter Ulrich. I really like them. One benefit of Peter's bulls that people might not be aware of is they dont go through fences. I'm not sure if it is because the bulls grow up around Peters high voltage electric fences. But the bulls I have stay home. I used to rent...

    Calving heifers

Can you imagine if something would have happened to it? You would have had a 100 % calving lose😀

When I hear Waco Texas it always reminds me of the ATF when they attacked the Branch Davidions with a tank and all those people got killed.

    670

Okay then momma is smaller than I'm used to looking at. The regular market in southern Alberta. Well two weeks ago they where paying more for 650 lbs steers than for 540lbs ones which is opposite of other years.

    670

Big calf. I just would guess you would calve late because of your location but would that calf weigh over 650lbs? Kind of hard to tell just by the picture because I dont know the frame size of momma.
