Oh I said that about the after birth, because Soapweed had two cows choke and die on it this year within like a few weeks of each other!! But like Hanta Yo said...I wouldn't touch it....that was a freak deal Soapweed had and usually the afterbirth causes no problems at all.

Well that is a loaded question....I think you'd be better off posting WHEN you run into a problem or call a vet....there are lots of things that can go wrong, but for the most part just sit back and watch em as usually things go very smoothly! But when the ole girl is calving and all you see...

Soapweed you need to get ya some cows with teeth so they can knaw through that stuff!!! Just kidding....yeah that is very unusual to lose two in a row like that in the same year!! My folks had a strange one the other day...had a cow having trouble calving so ran her in and all they could feel...

The knife is a sure way to get them outta there, but there is a risk of infection due to open wound and such and flies. On our ranch up home never ever had a problem with infected sacks on the steers, but our neighbor sure did.....not sure why but I think it had something to do with him leaving...

I assume this is Charlais #1? haha...I'm fond of the Charlais......we raised a herd of about 50 head of our own pure bred charlais at home for herd bulls.

As what I understand it only says yes or no or bred or open...it doesn't determine how far along or anything like that.

On another note I found out something else I didn't know here in Texas.....Lilly, Haymaker or others you might of known this, but in Texas your ordinary joe can't go out and make a business out of pregnancy testing.

Well I can see how it would be very beneficial in the whole "acuracy" aspect, but in large ranches where they may have to gather 4,5 or 600 or more head of cattle it would be a hassle having to either hold them in traps till the results came back, or else just regather the whole herd....either...

Anyone in here ever used the new blood tests for preg checking? Works on any Ruminant critter. Saw a program on it the other day. Has its positives and negatives.......I can see how it would work in certain situations, but I don't think it will be used much on many large cattle ranches.
