1 step program for PB

Got a question for you...

Would you be more inclined to visit PB if it wasn't so mean with the personal attacks? I have no problem with vicious attacks on a person's political ideas but am uncomfortable with attacks on an individual or their family. I'm very hesitance to censor anybody's thoughts but some of these personal attacks are over the top in my way of thinking.

What do you think?

I think you are absolutely right...talking politics should be about politics, not individuals or families. I would be more inclined to visit PB if it were about that.

I really dislike rules and censorship but would not be unhappy if the personal stuff wasn't there. You would think we could all be adults and censor ourselves. :?

But it has to be fair! Some on the right are just as vicious if not more so! If folks can't debate civilily and without personal attacks and sexual or racial innuendo they ought'a get a warning, Then loose thier membership for a week and if they continue they get to be history! But what's fair to some will be not to others! Just my thoughts!

Your right we should and untill WE step up and demand all members to act as adults and stop the school yard BS it will not happen.
If you go to banning, then all you do is get people upset over who said what and who said what to who when........Then you get everyone afraid to speak their mind.

How many have said to a poster who makes a personal remark to stop?
Sorry but the "Moderator" is no help. So it is up to US to speak up.
Really ~if I tell mike to keep kids out and he does it again and I tell him again and H tells him then FH tells him.....he will see those who want to debate will not listen to the BS.
You cant complaign without action.....this is OUR site (sorry macon you know what I mean) and we have to take the responsiblity of our words.
Dont put up with the rude comments, the stiring the pot, the out and out lies and name calling. It can only stop when ALL say enough and hold each other responsible.
If we stand together then when one does keep breaking the "rule" set by all who use this site then all we have to do is put them on ignore then you dont have to see what they write and they have been banned without getting others involved or feeling hurt.

sorry mike had to use you

Politic's and religion two subjects to not argue about.I have my beliefs you can have your's. It still is a free country last I checked..

Macon...............you have the software capability to let the folks over at Political Bull censor themselves, bout every talk forum online has a disregard/or buddy mode..............use it.
good luck

Sage- I let everything go- including many personal attacks on myself- because when I was moderating it everyone was whining every time I did edit a post- and so Macon said to let them run.....

But I did blip a thread the other day when it began doing personal attacks on several people that had said nothing against the poster- and attacked and brought up the personal lives of posters that don't even post in PB...
And I think you're aware of who posted that post MsSage.... :???:

And just minutes before that in the same thread there was a reply post from guest 1 attacking Soapweeds family, and his daughter, etc. etc.-- so I blipped them all...

I would love to see nothing better than the namecalling and personal attacks ended or edited off...And if someone thinks my posts go over the line they should be edited too....Sometimes in "the heat of battle" I love to give a shot in the shorts, when handed the right ammunition-- and not being "Sainted" yet- sometimes I stray.... But I can sit and argue with Sandhusker for hours without any problems until one of about a half dozen on that site come in and try to turn it into a namecalling/personal attack thread...Sandy and I even agreed the other day we need to get together and have a pull on the jug sometime...

Because of the namecalling and personal attacks we lost some very intelligent and knowledgeable posters...Goodpasture is a good example...Just because they don't follow the exact political drumbeat of the mob mentality doesn't make them any less knowledgeable or liars....Each person see things differently thru their lifetime of experiences and perspectives...

And now we've lost one of the real oldtimers on ranchers- Kola...And from what I've been told by others she was called- and accused of- I can't say I blame her.....
I sometimes think that is the goal of some on here that would rather namecall and personal attack then debate- just run anyone who thinks the other way off so they can have a one opinion political site.....

And I think you're aware of who posted that post MsSage....
Who BROUGHT UP the subject.....Mr MODERATOR???? YOU and then kola jumped on the bandwagon so own up to your words. As i have said a number of times you sure do love to stir the pot and what you BROUGHT up was best left in the past but you couldnt help yourself. Really, did you upset me DAMN straight you did BUT you also hurt 3 other people and destroyed any chance of working an issue out. Shoer is really happy and proud of your work...

Yeap that is what got us into this decussion people using the heat of "battle" to hit them in the shorts.........
That is not debating that is winning at any cost...kola did the same thing. As to the post in question I have no clue since I did not see what was said..nor do you. All you have is what "others" have told you. Well we have one saying it was a name and another saying it was a rape ...so see how different people view a post differently.
Why dont you agree to stop the name calling?

?

Well I guess its your perogative if you want to advertise to the world the basics of your personal life- and love life- personal affairs- and conquests on a political talk site- or in PMs- but when you start naming people (including their real names)- and they are not even people that post on that thread or anyway involved in the discussion- it gets a little disturbing....

No matter- I was going to blip it anyway when I saw the attack on Soaps daughter- the additional post just reinforced it....

You are a piece of work...YOU bring the issue UP then when I explain you say ohh you named names ...which everyone already KNOWS the real names of all involved.
Dont try to play Oh I was just trying to stop the attack when your the one who started it.............It had been a dead issue for a couple of years BUT you dragged it out just to hit me in the shorts...............
Well did you enjoy the fireworks? Too bad you couldnt see the ones shoer had to deal with.

I for one was VERY happy OT deleted that Thread....it had gone from bad to disgusting.

People can't debate in political when it keeps getting SO personal. More moderation may be called for!!!

What is to bad is most of the problem children stay in PB and hardly ever come out! So they won't see how some of us feel. If we all thought a little more and said a little less we'd be better off! I'll just solve it for me by staying out of PB. Ya'll do what you want. :D

I don't intend to make promises I can't keep. Preventing myself from peeking at the Political Bull page would be a very honorable thing to do, but any good intentions on my part would soon fall by the way from sheer temptation.

Even though I pledge faithfulness to my dear wife and the Conservative Cause, I reserve the right to look at but not touch pretty girls and to check out the well-meaning but misinformed Liberal line of lunacy. Occasionally it befalls me to offer substitute thoughts to this situation.

Beautifully put! Right on, too, talldog!

MsSage, you hit the nail on the head......I care too much to stay out of some of those debates. I'm probably not going to change anybody's mind, but I can't, in good conscience, stay silent.

Three brilliant posts in a row...........now that is pretty rare over in the forum in question!

I would bet our biggest problems stem from the silent not being vocal.

Instead of needing a drivers liscense or ID to vote, it should be you need to vote to get a drivers liscense or ID. Only then one can claim the voters gave their mandate.

I don't know.....around here the left digs 'em out of the gutter to vote. If it's not important enough for someone to know the issues and make the effort, I would rather they just sat it out.

That pretty much sums up my feelings, too. I think most of us that post in PB could use a little more self-discipline at times when it comes to the personal stuff. I know I've posted some things in there that I regretted later.

It's nice to have a place to discuss politics with other ranchers, though. Even the ones I don't agree with. So I'd hate to see Political Bull die out from people getting tired of all the personal stuff and just quitting it. But couldn't it also die out from too much moderating?

Where do you find the balance between limiting the personal attacks, while at the same time allowing people to freely express their thoughts?

wouldn't self discipline make one a conservative by nature?
