And to think..............a radio used to be an option, oh and the heaters was also an option in the early day

You got me to reminiscing...The first "brand new" pickup I bought was in 1972- a Chevy half ton- and the biggest options then were an 8 track tapedeck and A/C...Thats back when I was rodeoing hard and we thought we were in hog heaven travelling in it with a topper to live out of- tapedeck and A/C--Cost $4800...I put almost 70,000 miles on in 10 months and the engine started burning oil bad-- pulled into a Dodge dealership and traded it on a new 73 Dodge 4X4 Power Wagon-- was their heavy duty trailering/camper unit- only had a radio- Dodge did not even have a factory A/C then, just an add on unit....Dad almost had puppies when he found out I'd paid over $5000 ($5200) for a pickup....

No bugs to work out in our cummins MR. Not in the last one either.

Pulling power doesn't just come with the engine; it has a lot
to do with the gear ratio in the rear end. And you are covering alot
of country there with your 'come on' against any cummins. :P

Vehicles are kind of like religion. To each his own and woe be to
someone who tries to change it.

Good thing they make more than one kind of vehicle. It sure is best
to be happy with the vehicle you've got. Pretty fustrating to have one
you don't like.

Say, while we are on this subject, someone told us the other day
that vehicles in Canada get better fuel mileage than the ones here do.
According to them, it has something to do with your government
regulations. Is there anything to that?

First I'd heard of it and I wanted to find out.

FH,

The owner of the local dodge dealer told us that they are having lots of trouble with injectors in the new diesels. He says all the new diesels gm, Ford and dodge are having their troubles. And watch out for the bumpers on all trucks they are recycled and start to rust after a few washes. And they are NOT covering them under warranty.

My brother recently bought a 2006 Chevolet 2500 4 door longbox 4X4 with a 6000 vortec in it and just loves it.. And it seems to handle the stocktrailer pretty well.. But I'm still ashamed he bought a chevy... Brings a tear to my eye when were hauling cattle and that chevy pulls behind or a ahead of my ford and parks... Just sad...

But to each his own.. Me being a hardcore ford man.. I'll say its a pretty good pickup.. But to me it always seemed like Chevy had to rap so high to shift when pulling..

When will the injector problems show up, MR?

We have quite a few miles on this one already, with nary a problem.

Actually, we bought this from a dealership that sells Dodge and Ford
and they steered us away from the Fords the last two times we have
bought a new pickup from them. Too many problems with the Fords.
According to them, they get 10 Fords to work on, compared to 1 Dodge.

Guess time will tell.

"Recycled bumpers"...for crying out loud!!! For what the vehicles cost, the bumpers should be gold studded! We have a flatbed on our pickup, so that eliminates 1/2 the problem, I guess.

Good to hear that- because yesterday afternoon I bought it for Grandma as an anniversary present-- Has way too many frills and things on it for me (multiple driver seat memory  )- but she liked it... I liked the 0% interest :D ... And after the Chevy discounts I got the dealer to throw in a B & W fifth wheel hitch, trailer brake control, and heavy mudflaps....

OT, you made a heck of a deal!!!

Good for you. I'm calling you the next time I trade!!
I was impressed that they let you keep it and drive it for all
that time. WOO HOOO!!! Good job!!! :P

P.S.
Say, OT, what was the document fee on that outfit? Do you
recall? We paid $85 on our Dodge in South Dakota; a friend of ours
paid $99 in Kellogg, Idaho at Dave Smith Motors; and in Billlings
it is $299!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just wondering what you paid. Anything is too much, but $299????
Highway robbery!!

Never looked- we did most of the dealing over the phone while I was moving some cows and I just made a dash to town to sign the paperwork at 5PM...

Dealer is an old High School classmate- so I didn't even read what all he had me sign...All I know is it will cost me $5000 a year for the next 6 years

I know a guy can get better deals in the major metropolitan areas, where they move a lot of vehicles-- but I do like to try and get a half way decent deal locally first...Pays off sometimes down the line...This fella and his father (who is a former WWII bomber pilot/that was a POW for almost 4 years) have furnished cars for family at local funerals for years (Cadillac dealer)- go out of their way to do anything for vets and the military ( his Dad who is blind volunteered to be part of the honor guard when they buried my Dad) - and have been great about helping when you have a problem...I don't know how many people that have went in and borrowed a truck with a deweze or besler bed (if they have one on their lot) to use for feeding when they had problems with their own outfit- or borrowed an outfit just to use when they blew up their own....

I'm with you. Going to a large dealership isn't enjoyable at all for us.
In fact, we avoid it.

The last time we car shopped in Billings, we looked at a car at Burt
Pontiac. It was in the evening and I think this was in the 80's.
We tried out their car, they tried out ours. We decided not to trade, but by then we had more staff pressuring us than we could count; and then
they wouldn't give us back our car keys!!! I finally told Mr. FH I
had another set of keys and "lets just go." They finally let us have ours
back.

We never shopped in Billings for a car again.

For years I've bought my vehicles from a local dealer. Until the one before this one that I bought at a bigger lot and all I can say is when I was shopping for the new pickup I went back to the local guy. Why? Just because of the service I get with a vehicle purchase. They have jumped the battery for no cost when a little person got bored waiting in the vehicle with an adult right there and somehow turned on the lights and they have unlocked a vehicle for no charge when in a hurry i hit lock without the keys in my hands  ! They also gladly look when I drive in and am not sure a tire is low or if that is an odd sound or not.
