A Birds Eye View of the Sandhills

Today was the first day in a long time that it was nice enough to go fly the pastures. We got the last bunch of cows home on Thursday and needed to go check and make sure we got em all...and we did...This hasn't been the best fall to go fly,,so I was excited when hubby said..Lets Go!

Beautiful Sandhills of Nebraska....

A canal that runs through the middle of our ranch...from Meritt Dam down to Ainsworth...

Pasture and Meadows

The Fall Cows and Calves sure traveled this meadow today..

I would get lost out in those little hills without any mountains for landmarks! Incredible! I would rather ride in your hills than ours though! Less steep. Glad you've got all your stock accounted for.

It's been too chilly today to do a whole lot, so this thread has got me trying to find some ranchers.net ranches on google earth.
So far I have found OT's place, and I probably followed that canal right through Jassy's place, and I probably scanned over Soapweed's place but I'm not sure. I even found the airstrip Jassy took off from and looked at it from the same angel as in the picture. It's pretty fascinating to fly around ranching country from right here at home and see the different sights, and how everything is connected...... except gcreeks place, it's actually not connected to anything :lol: :lol:

I use Mapygon also. Some areas you can zoom in close enough to see the mirrors on the vehicles with it.

My place the pic is terrible, you really have to use your imagination to see the buildings.
I can't find your place gcreek, mainly because I'm not sure quite where to look for sure. A couple of hints would be appreciated :wink:

Glad ya'll are enjoying the photo's...we live about 30 miles from Valentine and yes MillerField is where we keep the plane...It's a Cessna 172...and my hubby wishes for a taildragger someday so he can land out here...

When ya live in the sandhills or any area for that matter..you do learn landmarks...and believe it or not...each hill has it's own look...ya remember where blowouts are...where there might be a lone cedar tree...plum thickets that grow on the side of a hill...lots of things to figure out where ya are..lol

Silver...I bet you could find me out in my white pickup caking cows in the mornings if it was a live feed..lol[/i]
