That was yesterday evening about 6 o'clock as we gathered heavies into the night lot. We had snow squalls off and on all day and it was colder than heck. I took these pictures as the cows were headed around the corner of the bale yard to the lot. A squall had just passed and it cleared off for the time being. These cows are being calved on a pivot that sets down on the Niobrara River bottom, we leave them out during the day and gather them at night.

The night lot is probably close to 10 acres, with trees and places to stuff calves out of the way. I was impressed with how the whole thing worked. Today was the only time I had ever helped pair out, over there, but it was fun.

We leave all the pairs behind as we gather at night. Then in the morning we pair everything off the pivot into a pair pasture first thing. Then we turn the heavies out of the night lot and hold the pairs there and pair them out when we are finished. It allows us to pair out with out having someone watch the gate. The other lot that we have cows in is not quite as handy. We generally feed there then pair out so we don't have cows trying to get out the gate.

She was good to watch the gate and never met a cow she was
afraid of. Good dogs are hard to beat.
