Albertas going crazy

R2 Ian wrote 4 Strong Winds about a girl he had a crush on in California when he was young. Hitch hiked down there to see her. Apparently she was quite the flirt and had a few other guys interested in her. Anyway if I remember right he wrote that song in NYC and then took his own advice and went to Alberta.
I really like that song and that Someday Soon Song. Some Day Soon royalities built his Suzzy Boges arena in ON.
That other song I have never heard. I will have to get some Ian and Sylvia tapes the next time I go over to Longview.

It's a nice place to visit but I wouldn't want to live there-I did for awhile come to think of it back in the day lol. If you want to make an Albertan mad compare their province to a poorly run Indian reserve-nobody pays taxes and you've got a drunk for a chief lol. Believe me it works at least it did in the brand shack in Brooks after a bull sale and a few whiskeys. Ian Tyson is a great song writer but Corb Lund can pen a pretty good lyric too.

I liked Ralph better before he quit drinking

FH; Corb has two CD's; Five dollar bill and Hair in my eyes like a Highland Steer. Don't expect conventional country; He's a mix of traditional, bluegrass, jazz and definately has his own sound. It's great! Check out www.corblundband.com

I like the song 'Always Keep an edge on your knife' I even sing along when nobodies around.
Thats Gregs fav.too,we frown on greg singing, even alone  Oops,NR I forgot about provincial sales taxes, save $4.oo on TP and pay $60 on the gas it takes to save...lol

We have the 2nd Corb Lund CD. I seen on his website that he's playing a few dates in the States. I don't know if some of the songs he plays, the Americans will be able to relate to. Just an innocent thought, so please don't get on me about it. Lots of the lyrics have to do with Alberta, places, situations, and such. Love the reference to the crappy Sask. highways in the one song, can't remember the name of it.

On a side note, the local cafe owner has made the truck get stuck song my husband's official theme song. That's a story in itself!

Corb Lund sings 'The Rodeo's Over' with Ian Tyson-pretty good tune-the kids all sing along on the way to rodeos-different than a hockey bus with most guys listening to mp3's or whatever them things are you stick in your ear lol.

I liked him. Especially the Hair in my eyes like a Highland Steer. It's different alright.

I have liked bluegrass since buying a Dillards album years ago. We get to hear bluegrass groups like here in the mid-Atlantic.

Gott'a agree on both of these choices and I think about the same of Corb Lund. Might just take some gettin' used to!

Wish he'd slow down his words a little so I could understand them better. He seems a little rough around the edges, but there ain't nuthin' wrong with that!

I downloaded some of him and the Dillards from Limewire. Dooley, is my favorite so far. I remember that song and them from Andy Griffith. They were some of the best shows. :D

Go ahead, start whistling the theme from the Andy Griffith show. It'll be stuck in your head for a day or two!

Im on dial up so I cant download anything. Plus im dumb as mud about computers and dont know how to put stuff on a disc anyways.
I will have to see if I can buy some Corb Lund the next time I get to Lethbridge but im kind of guessing they wont have it.
All they sell in record stores around here is that Nashville stuff :( and that weird stuff they play on the radio. You cant even get Ian Tyson except in Longview.

If I could get a job with wages like that, then I wouldnt mind working in town !!!! :o IU agree that before they bring other people in to work, get the people depending on welfare... If they need money, get a job!

There really isnt any unemployment in Alberta. As far as welfare goes I think there are a lot of cases of single mothers or people who are disabled for one reason or another. Anyway I dont think anybody chooses to go on welfare. Not around here anyways.
The biggest drain on society as far as im concerned is bearucrats and corporate welfare.

I agree where i live its amazing how many single moms are out there with kids from different fathers and keep having them just to get WIC or get more assistance.....and I went to school and make about what there making flipping burgers ...Im thinking to myself wow what did I do wrong.....

Here's an idea if were all so worried about single Mom's having babies and draining the welfare system-maybe the single guys having sex with them could marry some of them-it still takes two to tangle. The worst single mother does n't milk the system as much as the best politician.

Those are links to an Internet site. You go there and download -- which you cannot do as you say because you are on dialup. mp3s are horrible to download or send by email except with fast connection.

iTunes is a free program from Apple that you can put on your computer to listen to mp3 digital recordings. When I click on the links I posted, an mp3 downloads and is automatically recognized by iTunes which then plays it for me. I have much of my music collection on my computer all indexed by artist, song, genre, album, and so on. It's great. I download from my computer to my iPod. My kids have taught me a lot. My son mostly.

Thanks  but I dont even know what an mp3 is
Sad part is, im about the highest tech guy around here<where I live>

I agree, not everybody is trying to milk the system. Spouses die/run off/abusive/etc.
You dont want to punish the kids for this.
Its the bearucrats that eat up most of the money before it reaches the ones that need it.
Here is an example/ at the flop houses in Calgary every cot and bowel of soup costs Alberta tax payers $770 every 24 hours! Now who is making the money? Its not the homeless guy. It would be cheaper to cut them a check and tell them to get a motel room!

No im not upset about it some deserve to be on it but then there is others who could use it due to a change in there life that cant get it thats whats so upsetting. I guess in health care you see it..more so. I agree its just about as much the guys fault as the girls ...Im sorry if ive made people upset about it ....

Nope you didn't upset me...in Alta. jobs are a dime a dozen and the wages are crazy,in our small town the citys can't afford or whatever the reason but welfare families are sent to our town to live..nope so far none of them have got jobs, cause they don't want to :!: :!: One of my closest friends is a single mom of four, shes struggled but has always had a job,or two or three!!Also in Alta. daycare is subsidized...so sorry thats not an excuse either. There may be people out there that have no other corse but most certainly shouldn't be happening here in our province.

Mrs Greg im so glad you see my point ....its so upsetting god gave us all bodies to use and to work not just to sit around and do nothing ...unless there is medical reason...i see people come in and try to get dissability all the time when there really isnt anything wrong with them...its so sad..When i left my X i couldnt get anything at all ...and was going to school full time I made it but just those who could use a hand when they need to cant get it....I would rather work for what i have then get a hand out....makes you proud what you have gotten and you take pride in it...
