Beau Arndt, 18, of Americus, and two friends had placed several dozen goose decoys in a farm field Saturday and were lying in the snow waiting for incoming birds, according to the Lyon County Sheriff's Department.

Arndt's companions told police that a pickup truck stopped along a nearby road and fired a rifle shot into the decoys, but hit Arndt instead and then left the scene.
Shooting waterfowl with a rifle is illegal in Kansas, as is shooting from inside a vehicle or onto someone's property without permission.

So because some idiot shot from a roadway and a vehicle with a rifle which is against the law we shouldn't road hunt?????
Do you think making road hunting illegal would have stopped this? Your crazy if you do as they broke the law and had know reason for doing what they did!!!! They would have done it reguardless of the law!
So because someone shoots the wrong deer. doesn't tag the deer, etc etc and breaks game violations then what????? End deer hunting becuase "some" can;'t follow the laws?
You make zero sense.

My lord what a hissy!

I just posted and said for all you guys to read it.

I didn't lay blame...I just made a posting.

You're the one laying a square one here!!!

a good friend of mine from high school got caught road hunting. they shot at the "robo deer". fish and game fined them and took the guns. but they could have taken the vehicle, taken ALL guns they owned, jail for 6 months and NEVER get a hunting licence again!

he got off pretty easy. BUT my dad was in on the setting up of the deer...so Calvin held it against him, and me for him not being told about it

4 years, he held that grudge! we were getting back to speaking terms and he was engaged when a tragic accident took his life at the ripe old age of 26.

to this day I despise road hunting and road hunters. because of road hunting, I missed out on the last 4 years of Calvins life.

You guys are unbelievable really!

Mike please explain how "LEGAL" road hunting is like shooting fish in a barrel? How many pheasants, rephrase wild pheasants partridge or grouse you have in AL?

Jigs, sorry about your friend, but because he chose to break the law you hold that against legal road hunting? Get real man! He chose to shoot the decoy, he didn't have to and many don't! Those that want game at all cost are the ones that will continue to do illegal activity's regardless of the laws, hence the need for the decoy operations that take place in many states. I don't know many that allow big game road hunting from a right of way, but small game hunting is legal in some states and as long as one abides by those laws they are keeping within the rules/regs.
The law breakers will be on public, private ground no matter your rules/regs. You know of any state that allows night of big game? Yet how many clowns try to get away with the thirty pointer at midnight!!!!!
You can not condemn hunting because of law breakers, if your friend would have had the smarts to follow the laws, you would have talked to him for the remainder of his life, he chose not to and paid the price in fines.
I don't beleive in baiting, because I haven't grown up in or hunted states that allow it, I could state that if you need to bait big game then that is like shooting fish in a barrel as well, the great state of Texas and others allow it, that is up to each state and yes in states where illegal you still have those that break those laws as well, so then we must end baiting of any game animal nation wide?
Sorry, these are state issues and all states have different ways to handle game populations and hunting.

let me clarify my version of a road hunter.
lazy guy driving all over with a gun out of the window, sees his target and blasts away.
no permission, and shooting from a vehicle, two lawsbroken. shooting from a public road, law #3. trespassing to retrive the animal, law #4. possibly just cutting off the head and leaving the rest of the deer. not sure if it is a law, but very unethicle.

these are the guys who DO NOT reflect well on the entire population of hunters.

I agree, had my friend not shot from the road, we would not have had a falling out. BUT he did. and I have had a sour opinion of road hunting ever since.
probably a character flaw on my part to blame his actions, rather than him,. but I can live with it

Road hunting is a lazy mans way of hunting...doesn't matter what Country....State or province your in.Its dangerous and unsportsman like

Happy Go Lucky...your really not are you....happy I mean....after you post on ranchers I advice you to take your blood pressure...you seem a tad wond up to this girl

And boy am I glad my state still puts private property owners rights above that of slob hunters and their ability to shoot a stinking pheasant from the highway....

I got a nice call from the Fish & Game today- advising me that because of the high numbers of deer that they would be sponsoring an antlerless doe only special hunt to run thru Feb, where they can shoot up to 5 more does...They ASKED if I would give permission to allow hunters again for the special hunt- which I did...I couldn't turn down this little ex-Georgia girls southern Belle accent anyway...

Shoot over my fence on to my land and expect a bullet in return, I have people pay me good money to hunt, they are honest hard working men that respect my place, keep all their trash picked up and my gates closed. some sorry lowlife driving around throwing beer cans out the window and trespassing endangering other peoples live (i.e. previous post) If they can't afford the lease and/or need the meat just ask, I will take you out to my place, my blind, at my feeder free of charge. Don't be a sorry low-life POS.

I don't hunt...not because I'm a tree hugger, it just does not interest me. Knitting does not interest me either.

BUT...if you are afraid to actually get out , get your pants dirty and get
" into" the country that you are hunting ' whatever ' critter for, they why bother?

We've got a doe in the road ditch right now that got tagged by a chicken truck last nite....if you want her you're welcome to come and get her by lunch time. After then, I'm dragging her out to post for ' yote bait!!

OT, the Game People here also have ALWAYS asked permission for whatever they needed. But, we don't recognize the accent!!!!

I don't know if that's cause we're so small and rural still that it's not hard to find the land owners or what, but we've never had a real problem with the ' officials'.

Carter shoot anyone and you wil be in far more trouble than that of the hunter! Talk the talk, I'm betting your not going to walk the walk!!!

Everyone get's superman syndrome on the internet LOL!

You have people pay good money to hunt and they are all salt of the earth yeh, yeh!!!!!! Funny I have seen the opposite in cases as well.

The point you all miss is, "legal road hunting versus illegal hunting of the right of ways, big differeance. Your not lazy when you walk 2-3 miles of thick road ditch cover to pursue pheasants, in fact those work harder for birds than the pay operations where many plant pen raised birds and it takes 3-5 mintues to shoot a limit of the non wiley roosters LOL! But bu god they got their limit.

If road hunting is illegal where you live so be it then people are breaking the law, if legal then there is not alot anyone can do except change the laws in those states if you have the energy to do so! I know of No state that allows a rifle to be shot across a right of way on roads. Those that do this are breaking the law and I'm not speaking for those types.

Mrs.greg tell me how legal road hunting is unsportsman like? You all must think the ditches are running a muck with wildlife at all times of the day!!!! Sure it takes awya from the paid to hunt operations but if legal to bad on that. Follow the laws on roadside ditch hunting and it can be safe and rewarding, hunter ethics alos are important be it the ditch or private ground.

Good day!

walking is NOT road hunting.

a road hunter is a guy who drives around and shoots from the vehicle.

Right.... :!:

Gregs family are hunters, our daughter, nieces and nephews all hunt, they WALK the land they hunt, our land is posted walk hunt only, that stops the lazy hunters that only want the shoot not the hunt.

Happy got all p!ssy because Kola posted this and associated it with road hunting. Its not.

You ALL would have a sh!t fit if i posted something like....

Its time to ban assult weapons because of what happend in Omaha......

EVERY SINGLE EXAMPLE that has been posted....beer cans thrown from windows......shooting from in hte car....cutting off deer heads and leaving the rest......shooting geese with a rifle.......its illegal. How about you say we just ban the guns! Wouldnt that just take care of the problem??? Hell no!

How many of you lame arses have a fit when we say to blame the gun??? Its time you blame the person for the illegal activity. NOT the law abiding guy who follows the law which has been contested by the supreme court and upheld.

SoDak Hunter...I will agree with one thing you said. WE DO NEED TO BAN ASSAULT WEAPONS.

No one needs to hunt with an AK-47 or the like or own it for any reason whatsoever.

SDH, you are right............illegal acts are illegal and should be dealt with accordingly.
Roadside hunting, where it is legal is another issue. If one disagrees with the practice then that has to be handled in the legislature.

Absolutely, unequivocally, and indefensibly, wrong. Although AK-47's aren't usually used for hunting game, the U.S. Constitution does not separate the use of arms for defense and sporting weapons.

What's next hanguns? Swords?

Besides, there are laws on the books prohibiting automatic weapons to the general public without a permit.

I could shoot just as many people with a hunting gun as I could with an AK-47 had I the desire ...............

ALL guns could be labeled "Assault Weapons" if the libs chose to.
