Looking at some 24 Ft. Aluminum Trailers. From those that have any of these brands, please let me know what you like or don't about them. Wilson, Merritt, Barrett and Elite. The Barrett is priced real cheap, but after looking at it, I wasn't super impressed either. Kind of like the Merritt or Wilson the best (from reading material), but haven't seen new ones in person yet. Thanks for any information.

i have a 24ft Wilson and wouldn't trade it for anything other than a new Wilson. if i was buying a new one, the only thing i would do differently would be to get one without the roll up door on the back. they work fine but if you travel on rough county roads(like ours) or in the pasture, they'll rattle and bang quite a bit. but that all can be solved with a few tarp straps. other than that - Wilson is the way to go :!: IMO

Does it have to be aluminum??? Denny here makes a pretty awesome trailier and IMHO I would save my money and buy a Titan....

but why would you want to buy a trailer that pulls like it is loaded even when it is empty?

Well I know Denny builds a good trailer. I ve used his trailers before and they hold up good. I know guys that use them almost every day.

ditto to what Justin said except I have a slider on the back and sure wouldn't want a roll up either.

I am very satisfied with my Wilson and it would be very difficult to get me to consider anything else.

Mine is an '06 and I see the new ones have a slam latch on the rear door which would be an improvement IMHO.

my dad just called and asked me to tell ya'll that he really likes his Sooner.

(i know he's going to read this, so i have to sneak this in here......my Wilson is better. )

Check the height of the trailer so it would be the same height of the cab of the pickup for better airflow. Unless you need to haul horses. When I was looking the Barrett was the best deal and best trailer other than the Wilson. I picked my Barrett from the factory they make semi pots at the same place with the same welders. I wanted a Wilson but dealership that I was using was not very cooperating. Wilson is made in South Dakota whick helps. Then it was a 1,000 higher. I could not get my arms out of the trailer to unlock the excape doors and center gates. If I could not open the excape doors it was useless to me. The Barrets are very easy to load cattle into and the doors and gates swing and work great.

Loaded a couple of sale bulls into a new Roughneck yesterday (steel) those are real sweet good springs, outstanding spring loaded latches..
There is a new 4 star out that is excalty the height of the pickup cab to save on fule mileage. The old gooseneck and coosenecks are the standard in this area. Built very very heavy.
EBY were just to top heavy. There is a competion half aluminium, fiberglass and pine floor trailer that is the poorest trailer on the market.

I have a 16 year old featherlite that is 24' long great trailer. My brother has a 20' featherlite that is ten years old spends more time and the welder than on the road. The ranch has a Eby that is three years old it is the biggest piece of junk I have ever been around. the walls are very tinny and you can see every kick mark a cow has put in it. Plus the way ours is put togather you have to go inside to open the middle gate let me tell you when you have a mean bull or cow blowing smoke up your skirt you learn to run. My neighbor has a Exiss with the three compartments in it and after load two 2300 lbs into one compartment and having them beat the hell out of each other and the trailer didnt have any damage to it at all it made a believer out of me and that will be the next trailer I will buy.

I sure like our 24' Titan trailer. Some of the strong points are:

Three 8' compartments with sliding doors on all three doors.

Doors slam to latch, in both the shut and open positions.

Latches on the doors can easily be opened from inside the trailer.

Never-rot rumber floor--smooth for the front 20' with slats on the back four feet for extra traction when livestock jump out.

Magnet that holds the back latch in the open positon, so the gate can be slammed shut without interference.

Pulls easily.

Considerably cheaper than aluminum, less likely to blow over in a hard Nebraska wind, and will probably last longer than an aluminum trailer.

Wilson here and still like it, if I was to change anything would have sliding gate on both dividers. Roll up on the back and it doesn't freeze up in the winter.

CA

I prefer the folding gate on the second divider. It allows me to stand behind it while cattle exit from the first two sections and be fully protected from any flying hooves.

My Eby midgate came pre-modified. There is a piece of rope going from one of the pull rings, across the gate, through the wall of the trailer by the hinge, down the outside, back through the wall and across the gate to the lower ring. You pull that rope from the outside and it opens right up. Granted it's nice to have a trailer made right the first time, but it's a simple mod if you already have one.

One more thing--you can unlock to open or shut all gates from outside of the trailer to load or unload livestock.

Titan trailers are the best of the west but ho dealers in these neck of the woods. The only dealer ads I have seen were from Mt or SD.
Can one unlach the excape doors and center gates from the inside also.

Did the titians at one time a moveable center gate to put a Horse in a compartment front and cattle behind.
