OK...what is the difference between an EPD listed at +54 and one listed as 1+54? We are going to try to go to some bull sales this month and the next; we have at least 7 bulls to try to buy, and at least 3 of them as heifer bulls. If they sell like they did last year we will be trying to keep bull calves out of our best producing cows; we should have been doing that this past year! We've been throwing around the idea of looking for some bred registered cows too, but that's a whole other ball of wax. Any idea what bred registered cows are selling for?

Depending on the breed the 1 may actually be an I for Interim (an EPD that uses pedigree and performance within the breeders group). these are often calculated when performance information becomes available, but before a national evaluation (usually every 6 months).
They have more accuracy than just a pedigree estimate.
Other breeds denote these using P+ or I+ or BKS.
Most breeds are in the middle of computing national runs in the next couple of weeks, where you would get +54 with an associated numerical accuracy.
