NDP calls on federal government to stand up to U.S. meat packers

(CP) - The federal NDP says it's time the federal government stood up to meat packers.
NDP Agriculture Critic Charlie Angus says two U.S. food giants control over 80 per cent of Canada's beef market.

Angus adds during that during the BSE crisis in Canada, Cargill Foods and Tyson Foods have made record profits while Canadian farmers have seen their equity wiped out by low cattle prices.

He says after two years, the packers have solidified their control over the beef industry on both sides of the U.S.-Canadian border.

Agman and ~SH~ will explain it all to you and Mr. Angus-- just a big misunderstanding you folks up north have with those multinational corporations-- they are your buddy and have been doing you a big favor.... Ask NCBA, or CCA, or ABP- They are also only buying up huge ranchs, farmground, feedlots and building new packing plants in South America and Australia so they can raise the standard of living of those poor folk down there
