Went out this morning to gather the sheep in order to butcher a couple of lambs.
The wolves had been here last night again. Killed 10 ewes and lambs, chewed up/ crippled another 9. Spent the morning salvaging what I could out of the wounded. In 10 days the wolves have given us in the neighborhood of a $2500.00 loss.

I don't hate a lot of things but wolves are gaining recognition in this area.

Trapper is here tommorow, I guess we now have their pattern down.

Bad news Gcreek. The neighbor lost his corgi to a grizzly last night. He went out and hit it on the nose and it ran off. Yikes. :?

You could get one stuffed and keep in your den and sling elastic bands at it in the evening. Kind of like one of those voodoo dolls.

Had a man tell me a while back that gut shooting is the answer. The bullet goes thru and the wolf runs off to die elsewhere. Dang near impossible to trace back to where it was shot. And the problem wolf is solved until another comes in to take its place. Just be sure to use solid bullets that won't expand or break apart upon impact.

If they are a problem here we can kill as many as we see. Open season runs from Aug. 1 to Apr. 30. Bag limits run from 3 to NBL.

My trapper friends were here today and set up in two different locations, hopefully we can square the deal. Between father and son they have trapped in excess of 2500 wolves.

Hey we could have sold those wolves to the USA. :D

Be sure to cut off the paws and send them to Saskatchewan for the bounty. They might pay extra for extra big feet.

I know you guys have had a lot of laughs over the US buying
wolves from Canada...now they are killing them here for the
same things talked about right on this thread. I don't blame
you for laughing, if the shoe was on the other foot, I'd laugh
too. The longer we go the more stupid we get...

Sorry about losing those sheep, Gcreek. That's a bad deal~
for you AND for the sheep.

Hey Dave don't feel alone I've got a 5 year old cow that the wolves killed recently. But the DNR says well we know they ate it but not sure if they killed it.

That is so easy to prove if you find the kill early enough. A little skinning will show bruising under the hide which proves the cow/sheep etc. was alive when the predator started chewing.

If it was already dead of other causes there will be no bruising.

Incriminating fingerprints.
