Anyone use Diatomaceous Earth for Parasite Control?

We have used it mixed in with minerals or oats, also spread about in the dogs kennel keeps away all bugs as well as for milk cows in stalls really lowers any mastitis but does make the udder a bit dry. It really does work well but is prety expensive so we dont tend to get that much.

We feed a mineral that has it in the mix, and our cattle look way better than they did last year without it. I plan to use it more on it's own, in the chicken coop, on the pigs, etc. Our free range pigs can get liver flukes, and we've had the liver condemned on 1 pig at the butcher shop because of it. I want to see if DE will help with that.

We feed it to our baby calves to prevent coccidiosis. Everyone around here uses it. We only do it when they are in the corral, and when it's the muddy season, because puddle drinking seems to be the culprit that causes it for us. We just put some in the back of the shed in a small tub, and they just love it. It works too.

I also sprinkle it on my potatoes to control Colorado potato beetles. It doesn't work on adults, but when it comes to those little ones that have just hatched, it kills them as well as any chemical ever could. It's the method of choice with organic gardeners for this purpose.

It costs about 26 dollars for a 50 pound bag, and two or three bags will do us for a calving season, with leftovers going to the garden. It more than pays for itself.

Went to a grazing seminar last year where its use was being discouraged because it evidently was hard on dung beetles. And boy howdy did those folks love dung beetles.

Internal parasites mostly gone but couldnt say with liver fluke as we dont have any.. Just be a bit careful if giving it to the alone as its very fine and will dry out their noses if its not mixed with something to keep the dust down.
