AUBURN, Alabama -- Auburn's road trip to Kansas State could still end in a Thursday night kickoff, and the decision lies mostly with the Wildcats due to their status as the host team, according to athletics director Jay Jacobs.

Kansas State athletics director John Currie told the Wichita Eagle earlier this week that the game will move to Thursday if ESPN makes its decision soon and irons out the details, but Currie is also ready to move on and leave the game on Saturday if ESPN takes too much time.

From Auburn's perspective, Jacobs said, the Tigers are ready to play on Thursday, provided that Auburn coach Gus Malzahn signs off on the idea.

"It's really their decision, because it's their home game," Jacobs said. "If they ask us, and Gus thinks it will be good from a competitive standpoint, we would do it."

Auburn will be coming off of a bye week the week before the game -- currently scheduled for Sept. 20 -- so the Tigers would not face a short week of preparation. Kansas State also has a bye week on Sept. 13, so both teams would be entering the game on similar footing.

And after facing Kansas State, the Tigers head into Homecoming week in preparation to take on Louisiana Tech on Sept. 27.

According to Jacobs, the only reason Auburn would oppose the game shifting to a Sept. 18 date would be if Malzahn felt it created an uneven playing field.

"We're not going to put ourselves at a competitive disadvantage," Jacobs said.

Currie would like ESPN's final decision soon, according to the Eagle, if the date is going to be changed.

"If they can get done what they need to get done and move everything around, the game will be played on Thursday," Currie said Tuesday. "But I have also told them we need to know so our people can make plans. If we go along too long and they can't resolve it, we will just set the game on Saturday and move on."

Winners don't make excuses.
Winners don't complain like a little bench.
Sounds like a "legendary" coach is making preparation to write this one off already.

has to do with prep time, short week, and etc.......

It says they both have a buy week before the game. How much prep does he need? When your a program such as k state you should want all the national televised games you can get! More exposure maybe get another recruit or two to come play.

Playing Auburn is good exposure...not like we are playing the sisters of the poor, or Nebraska...those type of games do little for a University...

You don't want to play Nebraska, Jiggsy. We have a history of owning the Mild cats. During the last game didn't Martinez hang over 40 on you?

that is all you have, history..... no future, like KSU....

enjoy being mid pack in the 5th best conference nationally......

K-State still waiting on ESPN's decision on televising Auburn football date

January 21

The Kansas City Star

ESPN has a vision for Kansas State's upcoming football game against Auburn. The TV network wants to broadcast the clash of Big 12 and SEC teams, which will be played this season at Bill Snyder Family Stadium, to a national audience on a Thursday night, Sept. 18.

But it is taking longer than expected for that vision to become reality.

Case in point: K-State hasn't announced its 2014 schedule because it is waiting on ESPN. If the Wildcats have to wait much longer, athletic director John Currie says they will have no choice to but to keep the game on Saturday, Sept. 20, regardless of ESPN's desires.

"If they (ESPN) can get done what they need to get done and move everything around, the game will be played on Thursday," Currie said Tuesday. "But I have also told them we need to know so our people can make plans. If we go along too long and they can't resolve it, we will just set the game on Saturday and move on."

Currie was confident ESPN would set its college football schedule by now. In his last two letters to fans, posted on K-State's athletic website, he said the Widlcats' 2014 schedule was "very" close to becoming final.

It still isn't.

There are mixed views on when the game should be played. When asked about the possibility of moving the Auburn game to a Thursday, K-State coach Bill Snyder last month said, "It's the last thing in the world I want to do."

Currie acknowledged a Thursday game would inconvenience some fans, especially those hoping to drive in from across the state. Auburn is coming off an appearance in the BCS Championship game. K-State just won the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl. It should be one of the best nonconference games of the season.

Currie also said there are advantages to playing on Thursday, including a bigger student crowd and additional exposure.

"You've got two games on Thursday vs. 60 on a Saturday," Currie said. "There are going to be more eyeballs on us. It's a tremendous opportunity. But we are prepared to play on Saturday, too. This will be one of the most talked-about games in the country."

Future? You think you have a future with a coach that's 900 years old and does a marginal job of recruiting???

Now you be sure that Bevo gets his share of that TV money. Better yet, just send him the whole check!! LOL!

I will take those "marginal" kids who have work ethic any day over the "prima donna " type 5 star recruits who you end up kicking off the team...

Snyder can do more with less, than any other coach in America!

2012, KSU was at the top of the heap with recruiting classes that were never in the top 25 or 30... those my friends are RESUTS... NU and Texas have top 15 recruiting classes and have SQUAT to show for it.

If the results were so wonderful, what happened in 2013?

I suppose next you'll try to tell me what a wonderful job your president has done...or what a wonderful job your former governor is doing with that pesky website...and their fantastic results.

2013 had a lot of holes to fill..... look for good things this year at KSU...look for more mediocrity and suspensions at Nu.

Campus ban keeps Avery Moss off football team for 2014
By Sam McKewon

LINCOLN – Nebraska defensive end Avery Moss is off the football team for the 2014 season – and not by his choice or a decision made by coach Bo Pelini.

After a Lancaster County Court hearing Monday in which he pleaded no contest to a count of public indecency, Moss confirmed he's been banned from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus until at least Dec. 31. The World-Herald learned Friday through UNL Dean of Students Dr. Matthew Hecker and UNL Campus Police Chief Owen Yardley of the ban. Moss, who missed the Gator Bowl, lost his appeal of the one-year ban earlier in January.

The process allows Moss one more appeal – in December 2014 — before a four-year campus ban is imposed. Moss said he's considering that final appeal and finishing his career at Nebraska. That would mean taking a year off from being a UNL student or practicing with the team.

"Obviously, I don't agree with it," Moss said of the ban. "I want to come back to Nebraska, but everything's up in the air. I want to stay a Husker as long as I can. I want to graduate here. But that's up in the air due to how they're (banning) me from campus. If I do decide to stay, I'll come back and play. But I don't know if I'm going to stay a year."

In a text, Pelini declined comment and referred all queries to "university administration."

Yardley and Hecker said Friday that student privacy laws prevent them from giving reasons for the ban, but Moss confirmed it's related to the public indecency charge. In mid-December 2012, according to a UNL police report, Moss exposed himself to a 22-year-old UNL student worker inside a UNL residence hall convenience store.

For 2013, Moss said he was allowed on most parts of campus, but not residence halls. At some point he returned to the residence halls in December. Moss said a misunderstanding of when he could return triggered the ban.

"It was a procedural screw-up," Moss said. "It had nothing to do with me acting out again…they wanted me to do something and I misinterpreted it. I thought I was allowed to go back into the residence halls after a academic year – that's what it seemed like at first – and afterward it was presumed to be whenever Dr. Hecker said so."

Friday, Hecker said he doesn't discuss football players' student affairs issues with Pelini, but with NU associate athletic director Jamie Vaughn. Hecker described his relationship with the athletic department as "excellent." Yardley said that one of his officers made the call on the campus ban, but that he agreed with the decision. Yardley said campus bans are not usually publicized unless there's a belief the student body is in "imminent danger."

Since the late 2012 incident, Moss has been in counseling, said his lawyer Brad Roth.

"He's done everything I've asked of him," Roth said.

As a redshirt freshman, Moss finished with 36 tackles, eight tackles for loss and 4 ½ sacks in 2013. He also had an interception return for a touchdown in NU's 27-24 win over Northwestern. Moss he's "been browsing around at a bunch of schools" but is still considering staying at Nebraska.

OUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The loss of Moss diminishes the Huskers' depth on the defensive line, which returns one regular starter in All-Big Ten end Randy Gregory. Part-time starters Aaron Curry and Vincent Valentine will be back, as will Maliek Collins, who made his first start in the bowl. The Huskers lost a verbal commitment from prized junior college recruit Terrell Clinkscales, who switched his pledge to Kansas State.

So? He's done. Bo doesn't put up with BS from the players. They eff up, they're gone.

On a side note, daughter #1 has a sociology class this semester with Kenny Bell and a bunch of other football players whose names I can't remember. On Monday, the prof split them into small groups for some project, and #1 was in the group with Kenny. After spending a little time with him, she thinks Kenny is a class act, and she says the other players appear to be gentlemen.

Fear the Fro!

FWIW...if somebody wants to play for Methuselah rather than Bo...I hope he doesn't let the door hit him in the a$$. His loss, not ours.
