Baby Name Search

As most of ya know, the wife and I are having baby number 3 next month, but the only difference this time 'round, is we don't know what it is. With the boys, we found out ahead of time thanks to ultrasound, but this baby was camera-shy on photo day, so we really don't know what we're in for. So, as you can imagine, the Name Game is heating up throughout my whole family. All the relatives from 9-90 kinda thing, are throwing in their 2 cents worth. So, I figured I'll throw out the top picks and let the Ranchers.net family give theirs.
(These are in no order of preference BTW)

Boy Names : Grady Lee
Nash _____?
Benjamin Lee
Emmett William
J.W. - and we're not sure what they'll stand for, just has a nice ring to it for a little ranch hand.

Girls Names : Emily Aletha
Sophia Lorraine
Lorena Lynn
Kida Marie

With our boys, we went with pretty unique old Celtic names, Ronan and Bodi. So I have a hard time going with a plain name for #3, like Emily, but the wife loves it. Let me know what ya think folks.
 
I spose ya'll have gone over grand parent's and great grandparent's first and middle names??? That's always the first place I looked....after naming the first (boy) after my dad and his dad....
Even tho I looked at the women's names in the family that's not what I went with, but it gave me a start.

The girls...you know what darn near every baby girl born lately is either named Emily or Grace.....go for something different....Kida...thats really nice,where did you ever get that?

When my son was expecting thier baby they had Quira,and Nico picked out for a girl,lol my grandsons name is Waylon because hes my sons fav. singer.

The celtic names I'm partial too,after all mine is celtic.

My niece is expecting a baby first of March and this is also the first time they don't know what the baby is.
 
Doesn't it depend on how many syllables the last name has to balance out the first name? For example I probably would choose Nash if the last name had a couple syllables but not if it was only one. Nash Johnson sounds good to me but not Nash Jones. Conversely Emily Jones works.

I'd go with something unusual but memorable. If we had to name our kids over again we would have chosen differently for two of them and picked something uncommon. Regardless, it is a fun process. I think it is neat that they couldn't tell you whether you're getting a girl or boy. Just adds to the suspence!
 
When we named the two kids we have it was a chore... The one thing I will say is don't tell anyone the name until you name the kid, otherwise they will be darn right rude if they don't like it..

We had a tough time with the girl.. MY wife loved a few names in my background but they were names that would make you gag.. Well they mad me gag... Than we didn't want her to share a name with any of her aunts or cousins which knocked a few more off. We really like the the name Anna but my brother's fiance or gf (Can't remember what stage they were at) had that name so we changed the name to a more eastern Euro thing and named her Anya with a more traditional middle name in case she didn't like it.

The boy was pretty easy although hard. He got named after my greatgrandfather.. IT was a name the wife liked and again, we had to stay away from the more common names because some are a bit to common in her immediate family...So his name would be Ewan Alexander.. Again, went with kind of a more common middle name... Which actually is tough because if we have a third kid we are going to have to come up with something.. We knew with both of our kids what the sex was.. The boy was far from camera shy :shock:

As far as your names there, I like the Emmet one and I have alwayts been fond of the name Emily but that was just because there was a girl I once had a big old cruish on named Emily :oops:

Yeah. Some of those picks are from family members. We covered a few with the boys as well. I've always believed in doing that, at least for the family members worth honouring. :P

I agree on the Emily thing, that's why I'm not a fan - it's common now. As for Kida, this sounds goofy as heck, but it was a character in a Disney movie we watched with the kids - Atlantis - and it's certainly not common. I like Nico, very unique yet, pretty.
 
For some reason.....I think because my grandmother had 7 girls.....their names were not a good place for choosin names. They were rather bland names...but then again. Most from that era were.

Blanche (I do however like this name) She died in a horse accident when she was 9 years old. No one else in our family has used the name either and there's 38 grandkids.

Emily is soooo very overused here anymore that most folks are going for the "different" in names....even if it is just the spelling....

Well going to be the practical one here-don't make it too long or too exotic unless you think your kids going to enjoy spelling his name out for people the rest of their life. I weas looking at 'Emily's' Xmas program this year -half the names looked like people were using up the last seven scrabble tiles. I like old traditional or family names.

Ditto, here!!! Cannot tell you how many different ways I have seen names spelled....McKenzie/MacKenzy/MaQenzi/McEnzie....Cody/Kody/Kodi/Kodee ....Emily/Emaly/Emalee/Emyly .... Jessica/Jessyka/Jasika
Also see the names that are so oddly spelled and NOT known to anyone that teachers and friends have no idea how to pronounce it!! The oldest one seriously wanted to name the little girl "Adrenaline"..... til little mama put her foot down!! some names are a little too odd and make the child somewhat of an outsider!!

Did meet the nicest young lady in Butte the other day...her name was Treasure!!! No kidding!! She said that her folks tried for a decade to conceive and they knew she would be their only child and she was considered a treasure from conception!! So, her name fit her PERFECTLY!!

There's a family around here. I"m not sure where they live exactly but their daughter barrel races. Their last name is Champion. So their daughers name is Imarena and their son's name is National....is that not wierd?????

Good Lord am I glad i'm done having babies!!!! "Latigo" sounds like something the hubby would have chosen!! :lol: When we were expecting our first, he poured over Louis Lamour books for "just the right name".... shortly before Flint came along, his daddy said "Honey....I found his name!! Abijah Calijah Catlow!"...... only when I threatened to run off and have the baby ON MY OWN, did he decide that that was NOT a good name!!! :wink: :wink: :wink: :wink:

J.W.-- John William---two names that show up in our family tree many times....My wifes dads name is JC--doesn't stand for anything- just JC...Really causes problems with some of the government computers that need a first and middle name :roll: He's an old former Okie...My son is also JC-- but his is John Carl....

As for a girl I know which one my wife would pick-- Lorena Lynn- as she loves the name Lynn...Our oldest daughter is Stacy Lynn and her daughter is Leinie Lynn, taken from her dads name which was Leighton....
