Had a pretty bad scare last night.
My daughter had been outside playing and she came into the house went straight to her room and wouldn't come out.
I could hear her crying so I went to check on her. she told me her tummy hurt. asked if she was hungry, no. Sick, no. Fell down, no. What happened?
She told me that her horse had kicked her in the stomach.

Started checking her over, she said it only hurt right where I could see the hoof imprint. Then she stated that it felt like her tummy was getting filled up. Called the local ER and left.
They sent her by ambulance to the bigger ER for a CT scan.
Luckily it all turned out fine, she has a big briuse, but is fine. we were worried about her liver, but it was fine.

We have had a chat about NOT going around the horses alone. Told me she had the puppies with her, told her they would not protect her. Next time she is to be with myself or Dad around the horses.
Her horse didn't have any shoes on her.

ILH,That was a close call, could've been lots worse.I'm very adimit about my kids always being with someone when around the stock, even though our horses are really mellow and well behaved, and they don't dare mess with the cows, they got run over a couple times when i had sheep, bad behaving ram.Hope the little sweetie heals quick, take care.

Glad your daughter turned out okay. That was a close call. Hate to say it, but probably having the puppies with her is why she got kicked. Had she been out amongst the horses by herself, her chances of getting kicked may have been much less. Dogs have caused a lot of grief in corral situations. They'll nip at a horse's heels and get you bucked off, or a cow will chase a dog and it will hide between your legs. These observations come from personal experience. Hope I'm not being too "dogmatic."

Praying that your daughter will fully recover without any complications.

That is scary, and gives one cause of rejoycing and thanking God when the reports are good. what a relief! I too would suspect that the "puppies" may have not been as much protection as invitation for trouble in that situation.

That sent shivers up my back!

My husband got kicked in the stomach by a cow two years ago. He called me at work and told me he didn't feel well, so I went home and took him to the hospital. It started getting scary when the two doctors had a conference, then told us he was going to Brandon in the ambulance for a CT scan to make sure he didn't have a ruptured spleen. The really scary part came when they brought in a cooler full of blood, and instructions for the nurse on how to deal with it if his blood pressure suddenly started dropping!

So off he went on his 50 mile ambulance ride, while I had to zip home and check the cows before I could go. It was a very cold night, and we were calving, but luckily they obliged us and behaved. I got to the hospital just as he came out from the scan, and it was OK, so we went home together in our truck. Next morning he woke up with a fever and abdominal pain, which is always bad. They admitted him and he spent three days in the hospital, while I had fun at home with 400 head of cattle.   It all turned out well, but really makes you realize just how quickly you can get hurt.

Keep a good eye on your little girl for a couple of days to make sure she stays OK.

Glad that she's ok, will keep her in our prayers that she continues to have no trouble.

Skeery deal. I don't know how many times I've preached..don't walk behind a horse. It's not so bad when your saddlin your own, but loose horses, never!! Or other peoples horses, never!!! Cuz ya just never know what's goin on in their mind that might trigger a kick. Or even a spook and get ran over.

Thanks everyone.
She is doing alright. She headed off for school with a note in her backpack for her teacher. Told the teacher what happened and what to look for if she has a change, but so far so good.

Son has gray hair going on the right side, she is working on the left side
