we took a beating last night. 70 mph winds, big hail, and a few twisters. we lost one pivot, and there are 10 or so flipped over. no wheat to cut, and the first cutting of hay is all but done. will swath it, just to get the regrowth to go. saw some of the cows, can not get to the other pasture. hope they are all ok....
going to get a new roof and siding...looks like we were machine gunned.... kinda hard to look out and see $40,000 worth of alfalfa that is just gone. hope the banker is a forgiving soul.....this is gonna be a tough one to bail out of.
 
I loaded the semi yesterday with hay...so I am headed out at noon with the load to southern Kansas....just want to get away and not look at this stuff for a few hours....

sun will come up tomarrow, and everything will work out in the long run....
6 months from now this will be a pimple on a hogs butt...but now it sure looks bleak!
 
So sorry about all the damage and destruction..but the important thing is that your family is safe and sound...Mother nature sure can put a damper on things sometimes...Hang in there!
 
What part of Kansas are you from Jigs? I heard about some of those storms this morning on the radio. I will be starting on getting our first cutting of hay out in about a week, but we need some heat to make things grow. Sorry to here about your weather. We had some of that here about 3 weeks ago just mowed some alfalfa and wheat to the ground.
 
we are in the north central part of Kansas ..

wanted to get away so I took a load of hay down near McPherson this afternoon... just getting away and clearing the mind helps alot... dried out a bunch today, so tomarrow we start picking up stuff...

last count was 47 pivots flipped over and 20 bins lost and a few sheds through the area

I was figuring the value of the hay that was lost, and the numbers are staggering!! but it could have been a LOT worse...
 
Sorry about the storm losses, Jigs. Hail and tornadoes can be so very devastating. We had a similar hail and wind storm go through this area on July 25, 2001. It mowed a swath roughly 21 miles long and 7 miles wide, leaving no standing vegetation in its wake. Much wildlife was killed, and cattle were badly beaten up. Our black cows looked to be brindle colored from all the blood running down their backs. All of the hair on top of their ears was gone.

It is still early, and hopefully you will get adequate moisture and sunshine to still grow your crops for the remainder of the summer. Hang in there.
 
sorry to hear about the bad storm. i don't have an inkling what that situation would be like - but you guys must be strong willed or just allaround strong to live with that kind of threat. i can see my threat thru a scope, or i can prepare for it, and atleast know that it almost never will be bad enough to take my life. my eyes were opened to that devastation a few years back on a tour bus that went thru northern kansas... i can't remember the name of the town but it was a little farming community that was totally leveled - only a couple of buildings stood and one tree still standing with a piece of a car stuck into it like a dart.

Jiggsy...you ain't going to the right church or something. We had .40 inches of rain, but had a LOT of wind, too...but nothing like you must have had. There was a big old tree come down on top of a car and a pickup in town, and another place a limb came down on the service line going to a residence, but the town never lost power (thank God, cause I was on duty that night) and that was all the damage I heard of.

I hope my troughs at your place ain't 3 counties away now! :shock:

I'll be over in a few days before I head to Phoenix and see ya. :wink:

Ace, the 803 bull probably thought the snow is pretty hard in this country!! ground was white after the thing passed through, but you did not dare go out and try to catch one on your tounge!!

i bet 803 don't speak too highly of me... here i told him he was going to go down south for the rest of his winters.
