bad storm

Your strom came down here Saturday very cold (for us) 40 degrees and wind. Monday (as of last night) have .70 of rain so far. First rain we have seen in a while. Grass is boot high and headed out. Not much for hay unless this rain gets it growing a bit more.

Rumors coming in that there has been a great winter calf death loss for Iowa, Nebraska, SD . Did the March calf killers storms affect that many???

a lot of the calf crop got took in January...at least for us. had 10 days of very bitter cold. windchill was 50 below ...I had heifers calving then and lost 70% of calves born in that time span.... wound up losing 15 calves from the cold snap.

a lot of guys had bad results also...

The best crops I've grown were always following a catastrophic hail storm that wiped everything out and super chilled the ground. Hail storms are high in nitrogen. Of course you still have this year to salvage. How far along was the crop? Any chance of it stooling out for a feed crop?

my wheat is totally done, 3 inches high. neighbors have some that I might bale up and feed.
FSA guy said today that they are pushing for federal disaster help. it hit a pretty good chunk of the area

Jigs, you have really had a streak of bad luck. I'm so sorry, but it
has to get better. Hopefully you will get some compensation for your
crop. I know it won't be enough, but hopefully it will help. I hope, too
that you had some kind of crop insurance. One of the big things
in this kind of thing is dealing with it emotionally. Like an old codger
used to tell me, "Nothin's forever." I wish the best for you and yours
from here on out.

well, it ain't nothing that a stiff drink and elbow grease won't cure.....

they had us in for even bigger storms tonight, but it looks like that has shifted south now...
