If you're referring to Ben Roberts who wrote about the big greedy packer cartel, he was a member here back in the good old days. Here's a link to his profile, and from that you can get to his 600+ posts if you're interested:

He sent me a case of his books to pass around a long time ago, but not sure I have any left, or even where to start looking for them. I remember sending one (or maybe a few) to Oldtimer, and I think that was the last of them, but really don't remember for sure.

I'll look around when I get a chance and see if I can find an extra copy. If I can find one, I'll be more than happy to share it with you, because that's why Ben sent them to me.

Well, we got lucky and found an extra copy. Not sure how hard it is to mail something to Canada now, but I'll start checking on it. PM me your address and I'll try to get it out first part of the week.

I stumbled across this information, but not sure if is accurate. The information was AI
generated and disappeared almost as quickly as it showed up on the screen.

Ben Roberts authored a book titled "The Meat Packing Industry: A History of the Anaheim Plant."

That's not the one I have, but likely has some similarities.

On the subject of books, I also ran across Tam's book on the Big Muddy Badlands when I found Ben's book, and had forgotten about it. She was very gracious to send me a copy, it's a very good read, and my wife enjoyed it as much as I did. I highly recommend her book if she still has any available for sale.

I thought the AI disclaimer was interesting:

"For further information, consider looking up reviews or summaries from credible sources."

The book about Pan Phillips and Rich Hobson, Grass Beyond the Mountains, was Mr. FH favorite book. He read it in high school; then I had an opportunity to buy it in soft bound so I got it for him. He has all 3 of the books now. Grass Beyond the Mountains, Nothing too good for a cowboy and The Rancher takes a wife. Guichon Creek lives near that area and we visited there about 15 years ago (WOW, time flies!!) and so he got to experience some of that country. We always wanted to go back, but so far, that hasn't come to pass.

As to my favorite books, I love the Forrest Carter books: The Education of Little Tree; The Outlaw Josey Wales; Gone to Texas and Watch for me on the Mountain. He only wrote 4 and we own them all. He's a great storyteller.

Actually Rich Hobson wrote the books, not Pan Phillips

My Granddad brought some early registered Quarter horses out of Texas some with registration numbers under 2500. I got recites of rail car loads of horses in the 40s. Understand some of the deals were made with a doctor Green.
