But it is available on Amazon. So I think maybe I have to have it

I think you will LOVE it!!! I first read it when Reader's Digest had condensed versions of books. I liked it so much, I got it from our public library. Then I decided to buy it and it's been one of my most treasured books.

Definitely! Not bad to see the movie first, but they always leave too much out.

At the end of the movie I got really upset. Little Tree and his Grandfather(?) were walking away from their
house, and the hound(s) they had just stayed on the porch. I thought they were going to go off and leave the
hound(s). But then one of them turned and called the hounds to go with them, and the hound(s) bailed off the porch
a took off down the trail after Little Tree and his Grandfather(?). Wheww
