Best gun for farm use

Trust me judy is brawny enough to do a grizzly in with a buggy whip lol. Avtually one of the top ten all time grizzley's of all time was shot by and Indian squaw with a .22 short. They met on a mountain trail and it was him or her so she brain shot him with her .22. The skull and story are in a little museum in British Columbia. Judy is moving to genteel civilized Saskatchewan she can just brain any varmints with her tea cup-that includes any lonely male plow jockeys who come skulking around lol.
 
No such thing as one gun that will do it all. I have about 40 and still want a couple more. :oops:

No such thing as people agreeing on what caliber is best either. :lol:

You might start out with a .22 Mag. They are inexpensive to buy and shoot. Might be all you'll ever need if you don't hunt...........
 
I would have to tell you to buy an AR-15. Nice gun to have around, shoots .223 shells. Thats what we use here for coyote hunting. Have a bushmaster. The colt Varmiter is a nice gun also. Nice to have 30 round clips in case u miss the first time.
 
OK you guys is this a "real" gun ??? ~colt Varmiter~ Seriously I can not stop giggling and feel like my leg is being yanked a bit :)
 
Judith, you must not know what you are talking about..lol. This gun is the best in my book. We use them in minnesota for coyote hunting. It costs about $1200. Its a must have.
 
Savage makes a "varminter" as well.. theres is a simple bolt action gun however.. Than Weatherby makes the Varmit Master or something to that affect..

I don't think I would be tossing 1200 at a gun anytime soon.. But I'm just to broke and cheap to be doing stuff like that.
 
I'd say a .25-.06. You can load it light for coyotes or bobcats (60 grains) or you can load it for deer (120 grains) and anything in between.
 
I know absolutely nothing about guns. OK I know which way to point it but thats about it. I really only want one and only need it for two applications.

1. Coyote erradication
2. To put down a suffering animal

I didnt grow up using them or around anyone who did. My dad owns them, but I grew up in a "girls shouldnt do that" household. ( Fathers, don't ever, ever, ever tell your girls the shouldnt do something, they will grow up like me,as tomboy as they come :) :) I shoot rats in the garage with a BB gun but that is the extent of my expert knowledge :) A huge thanks to all for the suggestions I'll check em out on the net. An no I am not paying $1200 for a gun that will probably be used once a year :) I'm way to cheap for that, well i'm not cheap but ya know what I mean...

I like R.R.'s idea of a .22-250. I think my son still wants to sell a Browning .270 lever action laying around here. Now there's a gun with some punch, not too noisy and won't break your shoulder. Big enough for moose and small enough to use on coyotes if you don't want to save the skin.

But Ontario is a long way from B.C.!
 
If judith is moving to sask,she may want to find out what gun is best to take out the big honking Mosquitoes they have out there....Last time i was there I had to go three rounds with one just to tire it out enough so that i could run inside the cabin and hide.....I swear the thing stalked me for days...not sure if they call them Mosquitoes bites or donations back there......Every time they bit me,they left me a chocolate chip cookie ....
 
I'm kind of biased to go with an AR-15 from bushmaster, they're located 10 minutes away. If you go with an AR you want to make sure it's chambered in 5.56 and not .223. The 5.56 will fire that and .223 but if you get it chambered in .223 it only shoots .223 and not 5.56mm. My AR has a 6 position retractable stock to adjust to the current conditions/shooter. The buffer spring causes little to no recoil. I have a Remington 7400 semi-auto rifle with a leaupold scope chambered in .308/7.62x59. I still grab my AR when I want something in a hurry.

The downside of the AR-15 is that it takes a long time to clean, and it needs to be clean to function correctly. Although...There is something on the market called short stroke gas piston upppers. I think Bushmaster is carrying one now, but I couldn't find it on the site. The way an AR works is that once the bullet passes by the front sight there is a tiny hole in the barrel. Gas goes in that hole, down a tube above the barrel and blows the bolt carrier back. That gas is dirty and gets the gun dirty. The gas piston systems blow a piston back above the barrel, instead of gas going down the tube to the carrier a connecting rod blows it back and the gun doesn't get nearly as dirty and also says a little cooler. At some point I plan to sell my upper and get a gas piston system.

Does no one shoot a Henry rifle? We favor the Remington .243 for varmit control here but I sure like the looks of those little lever action .357 Henry's. They have a .44 mag rifle too. Looks like something you could carry in the scabbard pretty easy.

I'm open to opinions on the Henry Rifles. Why you shoot them, why you wouldn't own one, anything. I'm not looking to rid myself of any of my remingtons...just like the lever actions.
