[ That being said---our markets never were completely closed to you--even during worst of bse. Even though our own markets overseas have never completed recovered--and perhaps not even our domestic demand---we let you back in. You are the ones where the bse cattle originated that started this whole mess---long after any any cow fed byproducts shoulda died of old age---thank yourselves. As far as cool---you can buy a bag of apples and every damn one of them says where it's from--really shouldn't be that tough and people got a right to know where their food comes from.XXXXXXXXXXX

What part of it got yer "dandruff" up?

Any part of it you care to dispute?

More crap. Go to school.

I'm a long time lurker a first time poster on this site. I've got a cow ranch that's not to far from Gcreeks part of the world. Part of my year is spent guiding hunters to collect a trophy they can't get at home. Reading through the last few pages reminds me of a hunt in the Yukon, 6 or 7 years ago. My hunter crawled out of a bush plane about 150 miles from the end of the closest road. He was a Wyoming rancher and an Rcalf supporter. When he found out I was a BC rancher as well as a guide, it got a little tense to say the least. It was gonna be a long 10 days for both of us. The first 3 or 4 days there wasn't much talkin and he got to spend a lot of time looking at the ash of my saddle horse. He got lucky and shot a book caribou. About then he all of a sudden decided " maybe I wasn't the enemy". We started to talk and like any other two ranchers the topics were cows, horses, dogs and politics.
Eventually we got on the good old BSE topic. He stood his patriotic ground. I explained to him if we (Canada) have 1 cow - the USA has 10. If we have a BSE cow then in theory the USA has 10 of them. The difference is that North of the invisible line we look for them. On the South side the blinders are on. I told him how SRMs are removed from older cattle up here. He didn't have a clue what a SRM was. Had to explain to him they were the eyeballs, brains, spinal cords and a chunk of the guts. Told him up here we chuck them. Down there somebody or something eats them. I told him how the CFIA ( Canadian cattlemans worst nightmare ) looked for BSE in our old crock cows while the USDA did their testing on finished slaughter cattle under the age where the BSE prion would show.
Funny thing was, just before he got ready to fly out he stuck out his hand to shake and said " You know, about that BSE... we're BSing our country".

I hope the USAs mCOOL doesn't bite the American cowman in the ash, but if it does the North American consumer can always look for a piece of beef labeled "Product of Canada". It won't be bad.

By the way Leanin H, you sound like a guy I would ride with.

OT.. What a dumb comment. I don't know what world your friend is living in, but there are no limits here. Not even on the radar.

Don't forget BSE cost us pretty much our entire next generation. I only know of three operations around here where the owner is under 40 years old, and every one of those is one of our former 4H members. The rest are gone. And they won't be back.

At our local auction a couple of weeks ago one fellow brought in his calves to sell. They were about as perfect as you could ask for. Lots of them sold for well over a thousand dollars, and they weighed up really well. Their mothers were fantastic cows. The next week, with this good advertising under his belt, the cows came for sale. They sold for less money than the calves. I imagine most went for slaughter. It's enough to break your heart.

It started on May 20, 2003, it got worse with MCOOL, and the damage is not done yet. Thanks a lot.

Wow Kato, ten years later and you still choose to remain a victim and show your contempt and animosity towards U.S. ranchers. Quit blaming my country for YOUR BSE. BSE started in CANADA due to your negligence of not following the feed bans that enabled a CANADIAN cow to become infected with BSE in the first place.

When a cow showed up in Washington with BSE, it came here from YOUR country. Our prices immediately dropped and our export countries completely shut us out.

Prior to that we experienced years of pot load after pot load of Canadian cattle coming down to flood our markets and lower our prices. So guess what? You are not the only person in the world who has gotten screwed over by unfairness!

So to repeat what you constantly say, right back at you:
THANKS A LOT!!!!

I believe US cattle raisers are still using feedstuffs containing animal by-products that Canadians banned years ago.

Kind of funny, we always hear about the cow in Washington State that traced back to Canadian roots.
I guess the cows that tested positive in Alabama and Texas that had no Canadian connection just happened.
Also the cattle that received the SSS treatment.
The sooner everyone figures out North America has one cattle herd the better off we'll all be.
In The meantime the BS goes on and on.

When NAFTA was being discussed and first passed- that is what I believed we were discussing- having a North American herd... Cattle freely moving unrestricted from country to country... And with Canadas feedlots close by and large amounts of barley- I thought it would be a Win-Win for both countries....

BUT Canada is the one that made the decision we have Canadian cattle and US cattle way back right after NAFTA was passed and Canadians screamed "ALL US CATTLE ARE DISEASED" and wouldn't allow them to go north- even cattle that grazed a fenceline apart with Canadian cattle (while like mytwocents said- potload after potload of Canadian cattle came south unrestricted and flooded the US market and giving US producers some of the worst prices in history)...

You can't have it both ways-- back then Canadians declared a Canadian herd and a US herd-- now that it fits their need better they want a North American herd-- but that duck won't fly anymore! You Canadians dealt the hand- which actually turned into you crapping in your own nest... Now you have to live with it...

Would any one buy cattle from oldtimer????

I would like to know how many cows he has I'd bet around 30 head or so. The guys here who get all revved up over imports,r-calf,beef checkoff and such really don't have that much going anyhow. They are trying to raise the beefcheck off in Minnesota an extra dollar a head for in state promotion and there's guys with 8 and 10 head throwing a fit over it.Anyone who can name their cows in every post must not have that many mine are 75% registered and I don't know there name nor do I care they have a number.Bred vs.open I care.

Sad to see you crawling in bed with the Hoppy's and Larrry's of the world- but to many anymore it is easier to do personal attacks than argue the point in question..Nothing I posted is anything but the truth- and just like mytwocents worth said- it burns me when Canadians whine and blame the US for all their problems...Definitely not reflective of the majority of Canadians I personally know who realize what really happened...

The invites still out Denny...Stop in anytime- I'll buy you lunch...Check over (and count  ) the cows- I'll sell you a good bull (that has an easily traceable good paperwork history behind it) ...

But was it the whole truth? NO. But we expect nothing less from you on this topic. Why don't you try telling us the whole truth, not just parts of it that help you justify crucifying your neighbours.

I saw pictures on here of different folks' cattle and thought his looked decent and better then some of the others. I'd buy his cattle.

I think others on here would too, but are too gutless to say so - since he's the "unpopular kid" on the block. It's always easier to stand together and bully someone then it is to stand alone and defend them.

NOBODY here has done more bullying than OT.

Stick around for even a short time and it becomes crystal clear he talks out of both sides of his withered hind end....just like his hero, Zero.

Right now the Canadians are in his rifle sights. Makes me wonder just how much Canadian whiskey he has partaken of in his life.....kinda hypocritical if you ask me.

As far as easily traceable paperwork on livestock, the papers are no more honest than the man who owns the stock. You don't buy the story, you buy the merchandise.

Can you point out the lies in this post that you say he's spouted?

Just wait for when Ted Turners brucellosis packing buffalo get over the fence. I can see the paperwork now. In black & white it will clearly spell.......
OLDTIMER BANGS COWS
Now that would be a consumer protection label

  bearvalley- You and Canadians better worry if Ted Turners buffalo get over the fence and get with my cows.... After they travel the almost 400 miles from the Spanish Peaks to where my cows are- they'd only have 30 miles to be in Canada....

No real problem OT. Still another thousand miles, give or take, to my cows. I'll be selling beef to someone while you're feeding your cows and looking at em.

That's again where you and I differ- as I would never wish that upon any cattle producer... :(
