I beg your pardon, there Roper AB.
Our good friend trains barrel horses in Aubrey, Texas.
He knows many of the top barrel racers. He speaks of Sherri
Cervi who used to ride two horses. Troubles and Hawk, a grey
and a bay. Dave gives Sherri lots of credit, because he says
those two horses were incredibly different to ride. Lots of girls
have their hands full riding one, and she successfully rode two that were
totally different.
I'd agree with you in that someone who wasn't pro could get on the
horses and perhaps make a run, but to make a qualifying run at
pro level, believe me, those ladies are not PASSENGERS.
In high school rodeo, our daughter had a horse fall with her on the second barrel. She felt him go and was stepping off, when he tried to catch his balance. He started to regain his footing when she had turned loose of every thing but the saddle horn. He flung her out there as far as her arm would allow, breaking her collarbone before she ever hit the ground. The horse went on and finished turning that barrel, ran to the third barrel, turned it and ran home. Was it a winning time? Hardly. But
he was programmed to turn three barrels with or without a passenger. I use this just to make a point.
There is a lot going on with those girls that you just aren't aware of.
Don't mean to contradict you, but really they aren't passengers at that
level of competition. I really enjoy almost all of your posts on here.
Have a great day!
