Canadian Beef Rally

Help Support Ranchers.net:

We have land tax, cattle tax (for predators and inspectors), tax on equipment, state tax, federal around 28%, car-pick-up license tax which is high in my county, gas tax, and I don't know how many important ones I am missing. No sales tax in Montana yet.

Forgot social securtity tax, and medicare tax, social security is a big one.

We have mandatory licence & insurance on vehicles, gas tax, cigarette tax, booze tax, everything is taxed. We pay more for our gas than you do for the same gas that we ship down there because it is taxed higher here.

What does a gallon of gas cost you? Do they charge you more to have it delivered to the ranch? We used to get bulk cheaper, but now is cheaper to gas the going to town outfit up in town. We have all the other taxes, cigerettes, booze, etc too.

interesting on how this has turned into a tax question.

Just so i understand this, Oldtimer...you think cause we in Alberta, got our books in order, and have no provincial debt we should be looked at that being a subsidy. Well you are right, it was and is the oil and gas industry that is subsidizing everything here. As long as you yanks are willing to pay $40+ for a barrel of oil, we will produce it and sell it to you at a profit. The provincial goverement gets a royality on every barrel produced, cause it is a resource that belongs to the people of Alberta. This money is then used to lower our taxes, fund BSE programs, health care, education, roads, and everything else a government does. So in the end it is you that is subsidizing us, just like it is you that is keeping the Saudi's rich. :p

As I have said before, just cause we do it different, dont make it wrong. If you dont like the way your government handles/mishandles your countries finance's, change the system, dont change us, that is our job.

About 4 bucks for gas.

Is that a gallon or liter or how ever you sell it? Wind making things nasty here, better buck up and head outside. Thanks for the info.

90cents a litre. That $4 price was for a gallon.

3.785 liters in a gallon=$3.40 in Canada money = $2.73 US right for a gallon

And they doubled the tobacco tax last session and they are trying to raise the booze tax by 4 times this session- Also raising the gambling tax... Must be a bunch of Puritans in Helena anymore- pretty soon you won't even be able to afford a bad habit.......

SMS- That is the reason most of us belong to Ag and cattle associations- to have them fight for changes in government and policies that negatively affect us and to get us the best marketing opportunities for our products.... Problem that comes about is that whats good for the US producer is not always good for the Candian producer and visa versa... We are two separate and in many ways different countries...

6 U.S Gallon = 5 imp gallon.. Approx 4.4 litres a gallon.I don,t have a conversion chart right handy.

This sounds complicated to me. Think I had better get, truck of cake showing up any minute now.

oldtimer,

You are right we are different, but because of a shared genetic base we are linked. Kinda like the cousin's that you dont want to admit to sometimes....

There are about 4 litres in an American gallon. Gas is 85.5 cents a litre today in our town. Makes it $3.30 Canadian for an American gallon. $3.84 per Canadian gallon.

We use Imperial gallons here (or did before the conversion to metric). They are bigger than U.S. gallons.
