I was out a couple of days ago checking fence in the pasture where I need to move the bulls. I came across several spots that definetly need attention. After getting the fencing tools loaded I was able to think of an excuse to put it off for a day or so. Well, this morning I went out to finally put it behind me, when, whaddaya know? The wind is blowing so dang hard the fence is all sticking strait out and tight as a fiddle string. I couldn't find the bad spots, so now I have the day off and the lil woman is just proud as all get out that I got the fence fixed so quick. And, oh yeah, if anybody in Nebraska sees a black Sarratelli come rolling by can ya catch it and send it back please.

The wind has been howling here for days. We came back from SD
yesterday in GALE FORCE WINDS. It's ridiculous. And now we need
moisture.

I enjoyed your story, I'll show that to Mr. FH when he gets in.
He'll really enjoy it!! Especially the 'day off' part. He looks forward
to those more and more...

if it makes you feel any better, the wind is blowin' to beat hell here today too. and it has been all week. and we are needing a rain because of it.

Well..........I hope yall aint gettin the weather pattern we had around here for the last 4 years, damned wind blew constantly and no rain.
good luck

PS rainy and cloudy here :D

Haymaker, I know exactly what kind of weather ya'll have had. There's a reason that I left Texas. I was down in N.E. Texas 3 weeks ago visiting my mother. Where I was, it was so wet the ranchers were having to cut holes in the fence because the mud was too deep to get thru the gates. Those cows looked like they were miserable. Our drought up here finally broke last year. I'm just waiting though. We are due a good spring blizzard and we haven't had it yet. Its getting kinda spooky because we are right in the middle of calving and I know the storm is coming.

Temps on the rise and no good ole H2o,grass oughta get going pretty good, and hay fields should take off, maybe we can get back to normal around here,I would'nt wish a drought on my worst enemy.
good luck

PS I forgot,I dont have any enemies,I out lived em :D

The dry spot in Burleson County.

Got a total of a half inch out of this weeks worth of "rain". Not really hurting since we did have an "above average" rainfall total for last year. This old clay based soil was really getting hard and tight.

Really needed to dry up a little, but you can't help but wonder when it goes from raining all the time to not raining for weeks.

Hope the grass takes off. Mostly looks just like weeds.......clovers are really doing well this year and planted winter pastures, but everthing else looks pretty poor.

Nice day here today, too. Really enjoying it.

Beautiful day here.. Got to the low 70's- no wind- sunshine....I corraled cows at 7AM-- kids and friends showed up a little later to start working them-- and all the trailers/trucks showed up that I had planned- and by 10 AM we were moving cows to the north pasture to put them on some improved pasture I have for spring/fall pasture.....All done but the beerdrinking by 3PM... :D

Grass is coming strong with this warm weather- but could use another shot of rain (got only a 1/2 inch last week)... I've hauled hay bales out and place around the pasture to give the cows some filler/oomph just beside the green grass....

Neighbors hauled in 2000 head of steers next to us on the west side earlier in the week- and I wish I would have had a camera with me to take pictures of how scraggly some look- after a winter lotted- weighing 475-600-- so I could compare with how shiny they will look this fall after a summer on this Montana shortgrass- if we get any kind of moisture...

On top of that-- the cousin (who does my fieldwork) got the last of the river wheat fields finished seeding today with his new airseeder-- JUST WAITING FOR MORE RAIN ! :D
