In a round about way I got the pictures posted. 3 didn't up load and I don't know why but here's the rest. It looked like a bad storm and losing all that crop sucks. Hope you had insurance on it.

That has to be about as bad or worse than I've ever seen.
Thanks for posting those, BMR. We couldn't figure out how to
do it.

Dakota Plainsman, we are so sorry for the devastation
you suffered. It's good that no one was injured.
We hope you have enough pasture for your cattle and that you
had insurance on your crops. Hopefully the rest of the year will go better for you. Wish there was something we could do.

That bites. :( I know your pain from a few years ago. The bright side (I aways look for something positive) is that you will grow a heck of a crop on that ground next year. I hope some of it survives the super chill. How did the livestock fare? I was talking to a guy the other day that had 6 cows and 2 horses killed by baseballs from the sky.

I hear the Cody Ne and Lakeview area was beat to a pulp too.. soap can prolly fill us in more... Son said that an area farmer had dozens of irrigated circles / crops / hailed out...

Kilgore really caught a bad hail last Monday night, July 19th. It looks bad from three miles west of Kilgore to three miles east. I don't know how far north or south it went. Rushville and Chadron both had very devastating weather this past Thursday night, July 22nd. Power poles were blown down, and buildings and automobiles suffered damage. Fields and pastures were pounded.

"Many a slip between the cup and the lip," when it comes to good looking fields of crops and hay actually becoming money in the bank. This most certainly also applies to nice looking calves sucking their mothers in the summertime. "Never count your chickens before they are hatched" also seems very much to apply.

Soap do you have trouble?? Hope things are well...

We've lost four nice big calves to summer pneumonia, but other than that everything is hunky dory.

Hope things straighten out..... I've certainly walked a mile or two in those shoes.. We've had sick calves like that too... I always figure it's God's way of making me humble... I do enjoy what I do and sometimes forget with the fun what it's all about...

Was Largest Hail Stone Record Broken

Friday?Jul 25, 2010; 12:22 PM ET
Thanks to Facebook friend Dann C. for pointing this out. The National Weather Service in Aberdeen, South Dakota has some photos of a very large hailstone that fell in Vivian, SD on Friday. Just looking at the pictures, it would appear that this stone has broken the record for diameter and circumference that was previously set in Aurora, Nebraska in 2003.

The 2003 hailstone was 7 inches in diameter, having a circumference of 18.75 inches. The new hailstone would appear to have a maximum diameter of around 8 inches and a circumference of about 19 (if the beginning of the tape measure is zero). Of course, we'd have to wait for the NOAA Climate Extremes Committee to ratify a new record, which could take months or years, and it's possible this might set a new diameter or weight record but not circumference.
