I have been reading a discussion board of energy and petro
traders/investors since 1998. In the first few years, 99% of
the discussion was about investments, energy-insider stuff, etc.

Since 2001 more and more emphasis has been on the concept
of "peak oil", i.e. the depletion of fossil fuels, world-wide. If you
have never really considered it, that concept is hard to wrap
your mind around. I've posted a couple of hints about it on this
discussion board and got nary a comment.

For anyone interested on what's coming our way, here's a few
links that explores the subject:

The energy bulletin, a daily review of energy news:

Assoc for study of peak oil/gas-=their newsletters are very
very insightful:

Natural gas = fertilizer/electricity...here's an analysis of our
present position:

And finally, the energy traders discussion board. I heartily
recomment the threads titled "10% depletion for Cantrell",
and "How(Not) To Withdraw from Iraq". The latter is a
fascinating compilation of events which bears on the price
of diesel(ultimately) for all of us. Link:

Folks, you ain't seen nuthin yet re energy prices. :help:

When the white government ran Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) there was a total embargo on petroleum and they have no indigenous production.

They competely supplanted petroleum with various vegetable oils and ethanol.

Brazil also runs on renewable fuels to a great extent.

The problem can be dealt with, but not overnight.
