FIRE!!!!!

OT, Things seemed ok today, no big smoke so we stayed home and harvested winter wheat. I heard too that Jack lost some of his corrals and some sheds. Also heard a report that some cattle were lost as well. The fire was so big and long that we didn't even get over on that side of it. So only going by reports that I heard, I assume they are correct.
Looks like we dodged the lightening here today, we had a few strikes early this morning, with no rain. I was pretty uneasy considering they were forecasting more this afternoon. Fortunately no fires were set around here. How about east of here, any new fires? Hope you are faring ok and getting some sleep. I'm like you, as soon as I hear or see lightening at night I'm up prowling around looking, couldn't sleep anyway. Anyway take care everyone.

I heard today that they have the fires on the northside of the river including Harpers Ridge fire about 90% contained....State Lands has almost built a new town out by Fort Peck- tents, trailers, cookhouses, stockpiles of food and gear to supply their crews...They have another camp set up in south Valley I guess...I know they been advising everyone to stay off the Willow Creek road unless you need to be there, because of the heavy traffic of trucks and equipment...

My son called from Glendive yesterday and said they had some fires starting around there and by Circle....Like the Fire Chief told me the other day "When the pager goes off I just wonder which direction it is this time"..

I just heard the fires in south Valley are considered 100% contained- they are calling the Flat Tire complex of fires 18,500 acres- the Harpers Ridge fire was around 140 acres....

The radio said that they were going to station a Strikeforce crew of 15 Hotshot firefighters and 4 trucks in Glasgow until conditions change....

Good luck to all of you, hope it rains soon. Luckily we don't have any near us yet. Tap - what's happening with all the fires in your area?

The fires in this area are controlled, or out for now. There were a few small ones that started in the pine hill area between here and Liberty Belle's, but they jumped right on them. Everyone is on the hills around here when we have a lighning storm, because it could get bad in a hurry with a wind behind it. We have two very good vantage points on our ranch to see the country from, and our neighbor sits on one, and I on another. You sure see lots of headlights from up there when we have weather coming in. I can see at least 20 miles in three directions, and a lot farther than that in the other. The one decent sized fire I was to burned only a section, but could have been much worse. That is plenty anyway. We can only stand one natural disaster per year on these ranches around here, and we already had one. And there are some T-storms coming our way now from over in ranchers general direction. Hope the old so and so keeps them over there unless they have some rain with them.

As far as the rest of SD goes, my SD freinds on ranchers.net have been near, or had some big fires.

Let's hope for a general rain for all of us.

On Saturday my wife was talking to one of the smokejumpers/hotshot firefighters that they left stationed in town -- sounds like those boys have had a busy season already....Said in the months of June and July he had been in 7 states including Alaska, Mt. and SD....

Yesterday was 103- Today more of the same...

Things are not looking good for the firefighters- another storm following right down the Missouri breaks right now with lightning popping everywhere....Hope they are getting rain too....

Another went north of us earlier this evening- looks like it followed along the border over toward Big Muddy's country....

We got nothing......

Had a couple storms roll thru tonight. One before supper and it missed us. then we were going riding but changed our minds and worked colts in the barn. The wind got up but we got enough of a shower to dampen things down but not to measure.

We had a very nice rain late yesterday. Well over an inch I guess. It was so welcome that I had to sit in the barn and thank the good Lord and just watch him rain.
I am sure that y'all will all get some much needed rain in time.

You Dog! You got more rain yesterday?

I guess we need to give our preacher a raise.

Mike your turn is comming in the next day or two. Keep the wife running the rain run. It worked for me.

Just thought it was fitting to post this here. No pics, sw's camera batteries were dead and no time to charge them. We found a fire this morning at a neighbor's place, after receiving a couple phone calls from neighbors smelling smoke, etc. sw and I drove to the highest part of the ranch, looking for something and man, we found it. So glad we found it so early...otherwise we'd still be fighting fire from now till H*%# opens up. We sooooooo very much lucked out......fire was on the top of rock cliffs, very little fuel because of the fire there 2-3 years ago. Got there and squashed her right out :!:

Could have been very, very bad.

Thank you Lord, for taking care of all of us.

Very glad that things worked out so well for you, Hanta Yo. Being in the right place at the right time has such far reaching consequences. The Good Lord had His hand on your shoulders.
