Fire

Help Support Ranchers.net:

I get a lot of "Wow" reaction to my pictures of the fire damage on our place. The Cow Valley fire and the Durkee fire both happened in July. They meet up with each other for about 10 miles along Willow Creek. The total burned area exceeds 600 square miles. We own a little over 1,200 acres. I did the math. Our burned ground is 0.0025 of the area burned. To me that is a WOW. Hard to get the mind around that.

It has been hot alright and dry. Great haying weather but the pastures are turning brown. Hoping we get some rain next week.
It is so sad to see so much black I am sure. 🍳 🔥

Glad to see no damage to structures or loss of life. I bet the rattlesnakes are unhappy. Lots of smoke coming clear up into Eastern Washington.

There is a young man over on cattle today who lives down around Vale and his family runs cows by the Malhuer Reservoir. Basically the other side of the fire from me. He posted some pictures. Miles of black over there. He took pictures about where the Durkee fire and the Cow Valley fire met up. Those two fires combined total about 426,000 acres. That is 665 square miles. Hope the grass comes back. Because if not that is a awful lot of grass seed to buy and I doubt they have that much in stock.

Big lightening over Horse Heavens (Southeast Wa.) early this morning, but no report of fires. Very dry and easy to ignite. No rain since May.
