First wreck of the season

I've tubed them every way but upside down and haven't killed one yet. Dad killed his first one last year, and it was a case of the tube being in the right place to begin with, but a struggle ensued whereby the tube popped out and then was accidently rammed back in the wrong spot during the commotion.
The IV is something I would really like to learn, as I think most years a couple of calves could likely be saved with this technique.

The first few can be frustrating. :x Really flat calves are the worst but it is amazing how fast they can come back from the dead once you get onto proper procedure.

Mike is blaming Soap for the fact that we had two backward calves in a row yesterday. We didn't even have to think it our selves....just reading about it seemed to do it. One was backward and upside down, the other just backward. Both are fine. Makes us wonder about going very far away since they seem to come in threes

My boy had a hockey game in a couple hours one evening so I checked the cows and with a cow calving I decided to pull it so I can be on my merry way. Well I pulled the calf which was easy by hand her uterus pushed out. By the time I got the uterus in sowed up and full of meds she died 20 min later. I missed the hockey game and now had a bottle fed calf. The calf did get reunited with a new mother that had a stillborn.

Out of the 47 calves i have had so far and only losing that cow still stings and will for awhile.
