On Friday, before heading to the field to cut wheat, I was finished up getting the combine ready to go and the last job was to shiny up the windows.

Years of experimenting showed that John Deere window cleaner is the best - it just eats the dirt. So I pulled my trusty can of spray out from beside the seat and blasted it all over the window.

It didn't foam up like it usually does so I gave it another coat, thinking that maybe it had lost some of its zip due to age or something.

I should have thought of Katrina first.

I grabbed a rag and started to rub.

And rub.

And RUB.

The window just got cloudier.

I had grabbed the chain lube, not the cleaner..

I called the house for reinforcements.

After solemnly looking at the mess I'd made, she intones, "I don't think this is going to come squeaky clean".

Katrina, you now have good company.

I still can't get that **** off my glass.... I think I have it all off and I'll find a smudge.... Oh man... All that dust and dirt.... mercy what a nightmare....
Although yours was an honest mistake, I was a total fool....Cal will have to pay...

I don't know if it will clean the chain lube off the windows or not, but try some rubbing alcohol. I use it to clean windows in the house and in the vehicles. Just put it on a soft cloth or paper towel and wipe the windows. I keep a small spray bottle filled with it in each vehicle. Just make sure the area is well ventilated. And don't light a cigarette for a while!

There is a little devil telling me (us) to use alcohol to clean the windows...
Hello!!!! burnt little buddy you go first!!!
Look honey no eye brows!!!

Well it came off pretty good just using lots of warm soapy water.

Lesson learned though!!

I'm just glad I don't carry paint in the cab! :lol2: :lol2: :lol2:

Is it my fault if you can't follow simple directions :???: The second heavy coat of WD40 is what leaves a nice smooth finish on glass. Now go do it like you're supposed to :!:

Seriously Katrina, rubbing alcohol is a good window cleaner. I don't know anyone that posts on this board, so I wouldn't pull a pratical joke on anyone.

Try it on one window and let me know how it works!

I know hiker, I was just teasing ya.... I've been away from this board for awhile and we used to tease the dickens out of each other... I will try it and thank you!!

Cal,
You dog, once biten, twice shy......

Burnt,
Yep..... Just wait...... Just like poltergiest.... It's back....

Newspaper is the best 'cloth' I've ever used for cleaning windows. A little Windex, and wipe down with crumpled newspaper leaves a spotless, streak free window every time.

That sounds like a good idea. And I like that it's cheap, too! And with Windex a dumbarse like me wouldn' t be so likely to get it mixed up with the chain lube can . . .

Lilly, it was Sunlight dish soap that she used to clean it off. Worked like a charm. But Katrina's got me worried about the residual stuff . . . . :?
