I have a friend who is thinking about running for Miss South Dakota.. Lots of talent and can ride really well..... Only thing it takes alot of money and her folks are not rich.... Does anyone have any idea how we can raise some money to help her for exspenses???

Bikini car wash. We always just wore the top and a sensible pair of shorts nothing too sensual.

Bake sales

I dont know if they have it in the states but there are "regal" sales that make a bundle. ( they sell wrapping papers and doodads of all sorts)http://www.fundraisingwithregal.com/ we use the regal one at Braxtons school every year.

A meat draw at a pub always raises lots of $$$ too

Anymore around here the gals that ride, if they make state finals or nationals, they have playdays for the kids...18 and under, give decent prizes that have also been donated. Entry fees aren't too high, but enuff to make a profit so the kid has some money to pay for diesel and other expenses on their trip to finals. Don't see why a gal that rides can't have a playday to raise money for what she's doin.

Or might try a good ole fashioned BBQ, charge by the plate at the local community center or what not.

Lil Lilly has qualified for State Finals and WBR Finals.....instead of fundraisin, I've put together a book with her photos, and entry forms for these events and she's beatin the pavement for sponsors. Lookin perdy good so far. :D

Judith, how many accidents did you cause by blinding folks with your whiteness..So cruel, causing those accidents and than stealing the wallets as the poor folks recovered from burnt retinas

Well Il, It's pretty bad that you know me well enough to see right through my money grabbin scheme. Too bad that :) Not alot of accidents were caused but the line ups were incredible! ( you couldnt see till you got through the lines so you were sort of stuck there :)

Ahh the old bait and switch.. Yikes Judith, you are a crafty one.. I'll be keeping an eye on you and your shenanigans but will have the welders mask on to protect the retinas...

Why not try a Roll over auction on a donated steer like R-CALF does it may work for her also.

Check and see the legality of having a raffle. Perhaps a 1/2 beef could be donated for the prize.
How about an auction of donated items? Tie that in with the bbq and get some local business's to donate small items. We done that for a local softball team that was trying to go to an out of state tourney, it done so well they were able to go to another the following month. Little different though for an individual as opposed to a team.

If the raffles are legal --and you have access to a crowd --a 50-50 raffle is good. People like the idea of winning cash --sell the tickets keep half the cash and pay back the other half --either in one lump sum or to make it a better chance to the ticket buyers--pay it back in first, second and third place. Those work well at events where a crowd is gathered and you are going to draw during the event -- quick payback.

Also... get gift certificates donated from grocery stores and gas stations --
then raffle them off...

Sell the tickets and each ticket gets X number chances to win equal to the number of gift certificates you get donated. They did that recenty here for $50 gift cert. to the local grocery --made $1,500 free and clear just raffling those gift cert.

Done it three times, last time for the family at Viking Alberta that lost all the cattle in thew dugout, it is a guided gopher hunt, goes over well, in the evening we cool steaks for four for two nights, a quiet stay at our lake. Ranchers, bankers, and now a green house owner bought it.

Media love it.

A pancake feed or other supper.

Anything golf it seems nowdays that nebraskans are golfing even ranchers!

A concession stand at fair or some other roping or event.

Some of the local kids here will grill hamburgers and hotdogs from about 10 at night until 1 or 2 in the morning after the street dance or fair.
