But don't worry, Mrs. Kerry, it won't affect you and your multi-millionaire friends. Link below; my emphasis.

"The $69 billion tax cut bill that President Bush signed this week tripled tax rates for teenagers with college savings funds, despite Mr. Bush's 1999 pledge to veto any tax increase.
Under the new law, teenagers age 14 to 17 with investment income will now be taxed at the same rate as their parents, not at their own rates. Long-term capital gains and dividends that had been taxed at 5 percent will now be taxed at 15 percent. Interest that had been taxed at 10 percent will now be taxed at as much as 35 percent."

I can understand why they did this. Any kid from 14-17 that has investment income is from a very well to do family to start with.

This is going after the millionaires and their kids, trying to take a bigger share from the wealthy.

I don't think the wealthy should pay a higher percentage of taxes. It should be equal across the board.

Progressive Taxes are getting closer to socialism.

Are you saying it's ok for the Republican-dominated government to tax rich people more? You're wrong, by the way, rich people don't worry about college accounts. Do you think Mrs. Kerry's grandchildren have a "college" account where they invest their summer job salaries?

I don't think the wealthy should pay a higher percentage of taxes. It should be equal across the board.

And now it's not ok to tax the rich more than the rest of us? I do believe you're speaking out of both sides of your mouth.

Apparently you didn't read the article. In 1999 George W. Bush promised not to raise taxes period. From the article I linked above; my emphasis:

"The pledge commits signers to "oppose any and all efforts to increase the marginal tax rates for individuals and businesses." Mr. Bush went beyond the pledge when he was seeking the Republican nomination for president.

"If elected president, I will oppose and veto any increase in individual or corporate marginal income tax rates or individual or corporate income tax hikes," he wrote in June 1999 to Grover Norquist, president of the Americans for Tax Reform."

Now he's signed a tax increase bill. You just can't trust this guy on anything, can you?

I do believe you're speaking out of both sides of your mouth.

Obviously you have a comprehension problem.

I said "I understand why they did this".

Not, "I agree with this".

It's wrong to tax one class of incomes higher percentage wise than another period.

My mistake, sorry. How about Bush's pledge to not raise taxes on anyone? Is it ok with you that he's broken that pledge? Surely you're not trying to ignore that part of the post?

Will that make you happy? Nothing else seems to.

A forum named after me, how kind of you! Actually, I'm a very happy person. You just bring out the worst in me.:) How about an acknowledgment from you that he lied? He did raise taxes after he said he wouldn't. You'll be amazed how much better you will feel when you acknowledge that President Bush is not a saint, god, or even an honest person.

 So true. And Dis, there's no way you're a happy person. Anybody who pursues hatred of an individual as vehemently as you do cannot have a happy life. Perhaps Bush is a crappy president, but the fact you are so obsessed with him indicates you have some serious issues. R2 and Kolanuraven aren't Bush supporters, but they still talk about other subjects and people like them on this forum. Do you ever wonder why nobody likes you?

Actually, that's not true.

My best friend growing up lived in a single parent household with a deadbeat dad that didn't pay a cent of child support until she was 19 years old. Her mom worked for the county ACSC--not exactly rolling in dough.
But Laura had a paper route from the time she was about 11 or 12 years old. Her grandma helped her invest every last cent she earned for college. I remember thinking how cool it was that she owned stock in Toys R Us... 8)

 mp, 35,000 Iraqis are dead, 5, 10, 25, 50 more every day. We're coming up on 3,000 Americans dead, thousands more wounded, mained for life. Our Federal budget deficit is at an all time high. The Bush Administration budget projects a cut in VA funding for care of vets. And you beat me up because I won't ignore it? Do you seriously think that I care if nobody on this forum likes me? Get real.

Meanwhile in Afghanistan, (remember Afghanistan? Osama Bin Laden? 9/11? the war we've turned over to NATO?) the Taliban are making a comeback. Link below.

"KANDAHAR: Taliban militants ambushed two Afghan army convoys in the country's south, sparking gunfights that killed 25 militants, five Afghan soldiers and a civilian, the Afghan military said on Saturday.
About 50 Afghan soldiers were reported trapped in a Taliban-held territory after militants ambushed a military convey of around 20 vehicles.
Fighting also erupted between the insurgents and US forces in the south and an American soldier was killed and six others wounded, the US military said. The latest bloodletting comes just days after a 24-hour storm of violence across Afghanistan that killed some 120 people. The fiercest fighting was in Helmand province. It erupted late on Friday and six militants and an Afghan soldier were killed, said Gen Rehmatullah Raufi, the head of the Afghan military's southern region. It continued into Saturday morning with militants ambushing a large army convoy, setting off a gunfight that left 15 Taliban and four Afghan soldiers dead, said an army commander. The 20-vehicle Afghan army convoy was attacked after leaving the scene of a battle late Friday in which one soldier and six Taliban were killed, a general said. Only six vehicles had managed to escape, leaving behind the remainder and about 50 men, an army officer said. The men were cut off from the main unit and their fate was not known, he said. An explosion ripped through a vehicle carrying former warlord Amanullah Khan in Herat, wounding him. Two French commandos were killed on Saturday in combat in Afghanistan, a French military source said."

That tends to be talk around the coffee pot at Co-Op, too.
Frankly, I'm a little surprised by how disproportionately high the Bush supporters are here. Because that's not exemplary of the ranchers I know in real life.
Conservative yes, but that's part of the complaint about Bush I think. That he's not a very good conservative...

Dis, politicians tell lies and sometimes go back on their word. When you can find one (whatever denomination) who hasn't let me know.

I don't like politicians period. They're too much like lawyers.

I have to say that even here around the Beltway, the most conservative Republicans are very disappointed in Bush and fed up frankly. I was at a dinner the other night with stanch conservatives who were talking about the disaster that is Iraq, NSA surveillance, and so forth. These are right to bear arms, keep big Govt at bay type of people.

I'm not enthralled with the Bush administration, but it's not worth devoting that much thought to it. Whether or not Dis keeps bitching, Bush will remain in office until 2008, so he/she is just blowing hot air.

It's very enertaining for me to come on this board and see how Bush supporters are now putting him down as just a "politician." When I first came here, he was practically a god. He was honest, upright, Christian, a straight shooter. Today he has clay feet. My job may be done here.

Before too long it's not gonna matter if you are " for" or " against" higher taxes.

Taxes will have to be raised to pay out the HUGe debt that is now weighing down the nation. My guess is that it will happen like Bush said about troop withdrawl...." that'll be for another President to decide"...because that person, the next Prez, will be left with the bag of poop on the front door and George will be in his retirement villa in Mexico!

Kola, Your statement is not necessarily true. The "RATE" or "PERCENTAGE" of taxes do not have to be raised to pay down the debt. When the economy grows, as it is now, the gain in revenues will automatically rise.

Sometimes there is a lag, as it happened during Clinton, the processes put in place by Ronald Reagan was responsible for the increase in Federal Revenues.

I saw it on CNN this morning that we are living (here in the U.S.) in the most prosperous times since the history of the world.

If Bush can find a way to curtail Congressional spending, we could be in the black easily within a few years.

The next president will get credit for it, which ever party he is from.

Uh, HUH just what I thought. You're paid to be on here 24/7 to bash Bush, Republicans, the War in Iraq to get everyone here turned to your way of thinking? I think NOT :!:

Oh, BTW, WHO is paying you

I've made the statement about Dis being paid and she just continues to deny it.

One on here knows who she is...I can hardly wait to find out.

Of course, Dis never speaks about the economy...cause that is good
news and she doesn't know any.

Perhaps she is to be pittied, having to look at negativity all the time.
Never a good word comes from her. Sad, sad. Terrible way to live
your life in our good prosperous country with soldiers fighting to
keep us that way!

That's right, how can anyone be "happy" when everything they post is doom and gloom :!:

Yup, you've right all along as far as Dis being paid, she just admitted to her job here almost being done
