The World Still Needs Cowboys and Cowgirls
In these days of quads and fenced in pastures who the heck needs a cowboy. Well we might not need as many but we could sure use some more of the values they bring.I saw some good examples of them at the High School Finals this weekend. The weather turned nasty-only a few degrees above zero with a driving rain but 120 plus kids put it all out there. Think of those 11 year old girls driving their horse into that sloppy first barrel do you think she has trouble controlling fear or meeting challenges in the rest of her life. The grade twelve bull rider who just bucked off his last chance to go to the finals-talk about a life lesson in handling failure and a further lesson in class to shake the hand of the boy who just won his spot away. All the kids who put it out in those conditions don't even have quit in their vocabulary-it's easy in today's society of sick day and stress leave abuses to raise of generation of kids that deal with challenges by taking the easy road when faced with adversity-there weren't any of them yesterday in Wood Mountain. All sports are great for kids but some teach you to reach deeper inside yourself-theres no taking a shift off in bull riding-you coast in steer wrestling and you don't win. The big thing I took away from Wood Mountain was the sheer joy that the kids had inside them to compete. The weather definitely gave them lemons but they made lemonade-a face first belly slide in the arena mud became the thing to do after a good ride or run. Our kids can teach us all some lessons if we take the time to watch and learn..
Here's my last column hope u like it.
