Easter morning! The young child reaches in the basket of goodies and hold up a huge chocolate bunny. Eyes wide with anticipation, they bite into a big chocolate ear—it's hollow! Empty, nothing, as the sweet taste fades quickly, a sense of disappointment materializes within their heart. Such is life for so many. They go for the sweet stuff, possessions, power, pleasure, things that promise so much, but prove to be, futile, empty, hollow, and meaningless; disappointment and despair begin to find their way into the heart. This life is like a big chocolate bunny, that promises so much, but it is just an empty vacuum; it is useless, irrational, pointless, foolish, and meaningless. Almost 3,000 years ago Solomon spoke of this dilemma in the book of Ecclesiastes. He possessed tremendous intellect, power and wealth. He deprived his heart of no pleasure that he desired, but found this one simple truth to be the only single thing of any value. "Fear God, and keep His commandments, for this is man's all." A life spent walking humbly with God is so fulfilling, meaningful, and of value. A sense of direction leads into eternity. This life is something of lasting substance. So simple a truth, but yet the hollow bunny woos the masses. Have yourselves a good Sunday mornin', and a great rest of the week. Remember to fill that empty place with Him, not just on Easter, but every day.
