I ordered a load of grain delivered last week. I was pleasantly surprised to recognize the delivery driver from the Coop. Dan was a young man that had been in 4H with my daughter one year. His calf, a Herford did not place in his class. Our daughter's fared a little better, and won her class. Sarah's steer was one of the final 3 for Grand and Reserve that year. The judge stated that he liked the Char calf and would like to place him higher, but the animal would fall apart on the rail. The two Black calves took the ribbons, and 17 and 21st in the carcass contest. Dan's Herford was the Grand Champion Carcass animal, and Sarah's Charolais had the Reserve Grand carcass. Just shows how different an animal can be on the inside than he appears on the outside. Along these lines, as Samuel was sent to anoint David the Lord informed Samuel that, he should not look at outward appearances only, the the Lord was looking on the inside. Certainly David proved a wonderful choice because of his inner being. Now as we evaluate friends, we will do very well to look for indicators that reveal the inner person. First and foremost we need to do a careful evaluation of our inner person. Have a Good Sunday mornin' and a great rest of the week too!

I pray we all have good carcass data when the time comes. It has a lot to do with genetics but for us it is mostly in the feed.
